On a different note, I noticed one person mentioned MamaRoos. I thinking of buying one for when our baby arrives. Would anyone else say that they are recommended? I didn't even know they existed until I went to the baby show last month, but now I want one!

Don't worry about the noise of the house. Kids get use to the noise, if that is what they hear all the time. Do you wake up to every little noise in the house?

No, I suppose not. I have trouble falling asleep if it's noisy (like a constant noise), but I don't wake up with every noise.

I am really sensitive to light though. Is a light a big factor for newborns?

My daughter needed pitch black. Her room never had a single light in it, we even put black out curtains up for her. Any little bit of light and it was game over. She is still the same at 11 yrs old. Even now if her room is dark she will sleep even if not totally tired.

The boy it didn't (and at 9 yrs old still doesn't) matter about light. If he is tired he sleeps, if he isn't he won't.

Kind of a trial and error thing TBH.

I don't think it was the noise itself startling the kids awake, but rather they heard something, looked, and saw that I was no longer standing over the crib smiling, but instead trying to sneak out so I could do other stuff.

Light is a pain these days when summer comes along. It's always the "but it's not dark out!" argument. I am taking them on a camping trip out to Inuvik this summer. That should straighten them out or totally mangle any circadian rhythm any of us did have.

One thing I've learned is that every kid is different, so light and noise, different gadgets (mamaroos), carseats, whatever it might be is trial and error.

Obviously this is completely useless for you, but so is a lot of advice people will give you because like I said, just because it worked for their kid doesn't mean it will for yours. As someone else mentioned, if you have friends/family that offer you stuff to try, take it. Don't go buy a $300 Mamaroo if you can borrow one because you're kid might hate it.
