Hiller lets in a soft one early and everyone collectively groans.
Flames play steady from there on out, scoring three unanswered and pot an empty neter.
4-1 Flames

#Flames Bob Hartley is asking his team to "initiate" play against the Ducks. They have been too passive lately at the start of games.

Another awesome GDT, thx Cali Flames Fan.
Last time Flames beat the Ducks in the Pond, we had a goalie with a RH catcher (Turek). Tonight we have another (Hiller).
Coincidence? Flames take this one. Book it. GFG!

The sports gods sacrificed Drew Brees' attempt to become the 3rd QB to defeat every team last night by losing to the Baltimore Ravens in order to get the Flames a win tonight.
4-2 for the visitors.

The hockey gods don't watch the NFL, they don't care what happens to Drew Brew or whatever.

I agree (caveat: I know nothing).
Sven/Knight/Bollig does not fill me with confidence. But I suppose they'll see limited action

with those projected lines, I am curious when Poirier gets called up? Colborne and Raymond must be close to returning if Hartley would rather have Bouma on the top line RW, and Baertschi on the 4th line RW, both playing way out of position.
I'd much rather see: Glencross-Monahan-Hudler, Johnny-Granlund-Poirier, Sven-Jooris-Byron, Ferland-Bouma-Bollig

I think Hanowski would get the call up before Poirier for that RW spot. He has also been playing well in Adirondack. I'd like to see Poirier spend a little more time in the AHL, and I think it's important to see whether or not Hanowski is going to be a player for us as he is older and closer to being a finished product.

I value Hanowski more as a 3rd liner though, Poirier has the ability to be a clear cut top 6 PWF. That's the hole that needs to be filled on this team. I would like Hanowski to get some time with the big club too though, it's certainly no slight against him to call him a 3rd liner, teams need them just as much as they need top liners, I just think that right now, it's that top 6 RW that needs to be addressed. Bouma on the top line is not the answer, he's a 3rd line guy too.

You don't just throw Poirier into a top 6 RW role though. Obviously from other call ups, we've seen Hartley sheltering them.
It'd just be best to call up Hanowski and move up Byron/Jooris with Monahan and Glencross.

Stupid Bourque. I hope he takes another boneheaded, poorly-timed penalty tonight and it costs them the game this time.
|
My wife (a Bourque apologist) and I were at this game. The Flames were down 3-0 just a little over 5 minutes into the game too. It was a fantastic comeback. She rarely gets too intense at games, especially on the road, but she was losing her mind when we took the lead. I think this was the night she finally had enough and fell out of love with Rene Bourque.

Hopefully we get a split out of Anaheim/San Jose before beating Arizona on Saturday. Winning tonight would be nice, less pressure tmrw but I have a feeling the Ducks will be at their best tonight. I think we lose tonight but rebound against a SJ team that has problems with fast hard working teams, that is why Buffalo owned them. Arizona on Saturday should be 2 points bagged.

Not overly optimistic about this game. At the very least we will probably get killed in faceoffs. I dont think our inexperienced center's are quite ready to take on the likes of Getzlaff and Kesler, especially when they have the home ice advantage.

I think Monahan disproved this last week, didn't he?

Oh please do, Flames. Please do.
I'm getting tired of being grumpy after the first two periods, only to have to take it all back after the game.

Monahan was 55% last week - Granlund, Jooris and Bouma had a tough nights though.

Hartley on coaching against Quinn: "Like, I didnt coach many games against him. Unlike with my buddy Torts. Like, American league, then the same division, atlanta - Tampa Bay then Vancouver - Calgary...its no surprise we have a great relationship."

I think we win, the Flames are going to use the losing streak as motivation and work extra hard. I suspect this will be one of the better performances of the season. They are mentally strong and will not wilt under adversity and we probably see a 100% effort from everyone.
