I really like how at ease he is, he knows when to push and when to lay back and just let them play the game and not beat them up.

Will his style work when this team gets through the rebuild and needs to take the next step. That's always the tough thing to answer.

Thar be dragons.

Hartley will get more than 1 year somewhere else. He's not in a situation anymore where he needs to prove himself, he's done that in this role and will get other offers.

IF we want him, we will need to give more term. Would likely be the same with any other coach we'd bring in too, unless we took a flyer on a very un-proven entity. Remember with coaches, we aren't "stuck" with them if things don't work out, we are just "stuck" with paying them. So I'm sure the Flames don't want to sign a deal they aren't expecting to work out, but it's also not a "commitment" that has no ability for the Flames to change direction should things not be working out.

Hartley has been a great leader and fit as a HC for this roster. Last year in spite of finishing low in the standings he never pointed a blame finger and never let the team feel defeated. He always has this group working hard and they do not quit on him or each other.
Definitely a big fan of Hartley get a new contract extension.

Exactly!

This team has a reputation as a very hard working team that over achieves.

That reputation has come about because of Bob Hartley. It certainly wasn't there before Bob came on board. In fact the team may have had a reputation for the exact opposite.

At the end of the season, if Bob was unsigned, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he has numerous coaching job offers from multiple teams.

Everyone in the league knows the effect he's had on the team. We're lucky to have a coach of his caliber and we should lock this guy up.

Sign him up... the sooner the better!!!

When even (informed) Vancouver fans start telling me that Hartley's a good coach, I think we are on to something. Especially after last years amazing fiasco.

Treliving confirms that Hartley is his man :

Quote:
Treliving said the two haven’t talked numbers yet, but it’s just a matter of sitting down and getting it done.

As Treliving is now forthright about, he is convinced Hartley is the right man to follow through on this rebuild and Hartley wants to continue on the impressive path he’s paved so far.

“No rush but we’re talking,” Treliving said.

“I would suspect we’re going to get there.”

One thing that i've noticed about this years team is that they are having lots of fun while playing the game. They don't look uptight or nervous but rather relaxed and enjoying the game they are playing. Most of all they truely believe they can beat any team in the league.

It's been a long time since we've had a team that was so relaxed while playing with such confidence. You didn't see that under the Brent Sutter coaching era and for me it's a sign that good coaching by Hartley and his assistants is responsible for what we see on the ice today.

For him to actually come out and say that indicates that this is a done deal.

I've got a massive amount of respect for Bob as a coach. As a media person, I have a great love of his quips. On both fronts, he's earned more opportunities.

That is awesome to hear, its so rare that the coach keeps his job after a new GM enters the picture.

I love his media scrums, honest and to the point....plus the heavy french accent with a name like Bob Hartley is pretty hilarious too

I remember Sutter just absolutely sulking with his arms crossed and the entire bench sunk down into the bench looking down with not a single guy showing any emotion but self pity. It bothered me watching those games, people in the stands paying thousands to see games and the so called professionals are drowning in their own sorrow. It's night and day now, everyone watching the play intently or talking to one another to plan things out.

Hartley doesn't seem to coach emotionally but he just notices weaknesses and then works on them in practice without ripping anyone or losing his cool.

Hartley definitely seems to bring a positive vibe to the team. Players look like they are enjoying themselves. The fans seem to like the style of play. Individual players seems to be progressing for the most part. I really don't think there is another coach in the league that would be getting better results at this point of the rebuild.

Brent Sutter used the old stye coaching of screaming and kicking garbage cans. It was an outdated style of coaching that players no longer respond to. Tortorella was guilty of the same and only lasted a year in Vancouver.

Hartley to his credit changed his style of coaching and found better ways to motivate and get the best out of his players.

Hartley is a great coach in Calgary. Glad I was wrong about him.
