Coincidentally, does Hartley get re-signed soon?

As long as we see continual growth I don't see why Hartley wouldn't be the obvious choice to see the rebuild through.

Hartley (and management?) are on record saying that they will not have any negotiations throughout the course of the season. They do not want to distract from the team in any way. They will resume negotiations once the season is over.

I think you may be mistaken. As I understand they will not talk about it in the media until there is something to talk about. I don't think that means they won't strike a deal mid season

If Babcock became available next season would that make Hartley expendable? I like Hartley but I think I would like Babcock more.

Sick as a dog today but I am still stoked for this one.
Hope Johnny can pick up where he left off in Winnipeg

It's going to be the Babcock sweepstakes next summer. The Maple Leafs, Oilers, and other teams are going to offer him a truckload of cash for his services. We will see that happens.

If he goes for money, no one can outbid the Leafs. The Oil are too stupid to make a serious offer.

Even if he were interested in coming to Calgary, I don't think the Flames can offer what rumours have suggested he will want, which is a coaching position with a high level of autonomy to make GM-type decisions like Patrick Roy in Denver. Toronto might actually be a place where he could get that, but no chance in this market with Burke at the top and Trevling less than a year into the job.

Setogouchi regaining some of his former glory is in the best interest of the team. Even if he doesn't play his presence sets a standard that the other players will need to exceed to keep a spot. Let Setogouchi work hard and force the others to push themselves.

I think Hartley is perfect for this team right now and I'm not sure why we would switch him out.
The dude is a hard-nosed, team-focused father figure to this young group. He cares deeply about this team and is extracting maximum value from a group of players that are far from the most talented in the league.
If anything, Hartley should be extended another 2-3 years.

Hmmm…went back and looked. You are probably right.

Great point. Jooris is definitely showing that he deserves the roster spot more than Seto.

That's fair.
I've watched them once this season (last night vs the Oilers) and was not impressed at all with what I saw. But, it is just one game.
Guess we'll see what happens tonight, but if the Bolts play anything like they did last night, the Flames will outwork them handily and beat them for sure.

Listen, if the Flames can beat the 'Hawks when they were dominated for 65 minutes, then of course they can beat the Lightning. They are always a surprise for a lot of very good teams.

Sure, but the Flames got amazing goaltending and were lucky against the Hawks. I think the Flames work much harder than teams like the Bolts, so I really don't think luck would be involved in beating them.

Tampa is going to press hard after their loss last night. Hopefully Ramo can weather the storm early on.
Also, with St. Louis playing in NY, is there anybody in the organization left that was a part of 2004? Owners have changed, management has changed, coaches have changed, the entire roster. Flames still have a lot of personnel I think that was still a part of the '04 run (owners, KK, scouts, etc). I wonder if there is anyone at all in Tampa now from their run.

I'm pretty sure that Babcock will, in addition to a wheelbarrow full of money, be seeking more authority than as a mere coach. Coach/GM or Coach/VP will likely be the goal. We already have a hierarchy in place.
