The alleged victim is Voynov's wife and through her own lawyer says that there was no crime.
However according to California law, the prosecutors can proceed with domestic violence charges without the victim pressing charges.
As of last night a police spokesman said the district attorney was still deciding on whether to proceed.

I always wondered why LA didn't just buy out Mike Richards in the summer...... seemed like the low bar to cross, but Lombardi is way too loyal to his boys.

Maybe because Mike Richards is too valuable as a playoff performer when it matters the most.

I remember when he signed with Colorado. There was a piece in their paper saying that D. Sutter didn't give young players a chance.

van der Gulik wasn't LA's first choice for call up.
They wanted to call up Jordan Weal but his performance bounses put him over the $650k limit on the emergency roster exception

That was another point Darryl made. He used it as a bargaining chip with prospects that if they wanted to be called up, because we were up against the cap, it would be easier to get called up if their salary was low.

Voynov is moving for the suspension to be lifted
http://www.latimes.com/sports/sports...106-story.html
Quote:
The agent for suspended Kings defenseman Slava Voynov will attempt to have the suspension lifted by the NHL.
Voynov was suspended indefinitely by the league last month after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.
He has not been charged and Redondo Beach Police Lt. Joe Hoffman said, via email, that detectives are scheduled to meet with the district attorney's office on Monday.
Rolland Hedges, Voynov's agent, referred to a new section of the collective bargaining agreement where there is an application for a hearing. He said they will be asking for the NHL to hear Voynov’s concerns and rule on whether he could return instead of waiting for the prosecutor’s office to make a decision on the case.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Per @reallisa story on Voynov hoping to have suspension lifted: From what I understand, he must be willing co-operate in the NHL's investigation. He has -- so far -- declined to do so, which is his right. But it won't be lifted until that happens.

I can understand the NHL suspending Voynov without a guilty conviction if the NHL had some hard proof like the Ray Rice incident or if the supposed victim pressed charges, but this isn't the case here. IMO Voynov should be allowed to play. Why is ok for him to get paid but not ok for him to play? Apparently allowing him to do his job is condoning domestic abuse but paying him millions of dollars to sit at home isn't. Doesn't make any sense.

He shouldn't be getting paid either...

Suspension with pay until there's a league hearing is the only way to go. But I don't think a dropping of the criminal investigation would automatically = no suspension. Two different legal burdens are involved.

Voynov should be playing at this point. What are the NHL investigators going to accomplish that the LAPD won't? That's nice that Gary wants the league to look swift and decisive, but until he's charged he should be playing. If the law clears him, then it's none of the NHL's business.

League can suspend for actions bringing the league into disrepute I think. And it doesn't depend on a criminal conviction. Though it's obviously a tougher case to make.

The L.A County District Attorney's office says Voynov's wife suffered injuries to her eyebrow, cheek and neck.
Rich Hammond @Rich_Hammond
Per the release, Voynov faces a possible maximum sentence of nine years in prison. Also immigration issues.
