Hopefully with more heart, consistency and less stupid penalties. But I know what you're saying.

If you would've told me at the end of last year that Jooris would be the first call-up this year, I would've had to re-examine my entire world. He was always a hard worker, as we saw in camp, but whatever he did in the offseason has made him a real prospect.
He was an offensive player at Union, so I refuse to believe he'll top out as an energy guy/grinder, but this is certainly a hell of a step for him.

I kind of thought that Granlund or Ferland would be called up first instead. I'll assume that those guys took losing Scorch a lot harder than Jooris so they weren't in a good place to handle being called up.

Maybe he could just bring the Scorch costume with him?

Though I agree with the large salary part there is nothing GG about Jones being on IR.

Positional need made Jooris the first call up. RH RW vs LH RW (Ferland) makes a huge difference. It's been pointed out the lack of RH anything on the Flames is scare and sorely needed.

He's fast and he hits people... It seems be what he is best at and I don't mind when he's injured so he may as well keep running around and injuring himself IMO

I watch almost every Flames game. I follow the team pretty closely and watch pre-game/post game material with regularity.
If you showed me a picture/video of David Jones I could not identify him. On or off the ice. I can't recall what his face looks like, what number he wears or his playing style. The rare time I encounter seeing him I'm always confused and think "who's this guy?" Hear the announcer call out "David Jones" and think "oh that's right." Then instantly forget he exists.
That's how impactful David Jones is in my experience. I wish I was kidding.

This.
Don't dislike him like others do, but he probably ranks up there as one of the most forgettable Flames for me. He's probably the least recognizable player and everything about him is bland and generic.

When Jones plays and when he's playing without a nagging injury, he's been pretty aggressive and effective. The trouble is that he's just about always injured and I don't see him getting another NHL contract after this one.

It would be deflating to be on the Addy Flames for 3 months where not 1 person is called up. At least now, anyone who was a bubble player has motivation to keep working their tail off and believe what the flames told them.
|
A doctor has to sign off to place someone on LTIR. No professional would risk his job/reputation to pretend someone is injured when they are not, just so the Flames could put Jones on LTIR. That is proposterous.

Keys to popularity with Flames fans - be under 25 or have an annual salary of less than $1M. Ideally, do both.
Keys to hostility from Flames fans - make more than $2.5M or be aged over 30. Double whammy against you if you have both strikes against you and your last name isn't Giordano.

Anyone else think that Ferland - Stajan - Jooris would be a very entertaining fourth line?

How is he screwing himself over - There is no question he is hurt and would have to miss at least 1 game. My opinion stands in that it is better for everyone - Jones, Flames, Prospects

The rest of your babbling ignores last year. The guys in Addy already know spaces will open up as time and need permits.
|
How is it cheating - again.... Jones is hurt. Mgmt goes to him and tells him to get back to 100% vs doing what he probably spends the entire season doing and battling a nagging injury (as many players do). Jones gets back to 100% and can perform 100% putting himself in a better position for his next contract.
The rest of the "babbling" is a very legitimate discussion. Obviously you didnt listen to interviews as players were cut but it sounds as if all wind was taken from their sail. Sven proves my point in how a player can go down and not see the light at the end of the tunnel (last year). You simply cant argue that it is not a slight confidence boost to those in Addy when any player is called up.
