This could be really interesting. I may have to go "purchase some supplies for the guys in the back" in about 15 mins here so I can slip away from work for half an hour.

Colborne may be better than Bouma at center (i.e. 4th best C) but he's wasted on the 4th line with Bollig and McGrattan as wingers, so would be better utilized as a top 9 winger.

Now perhaps Stajan is playing there simply to give the line some sense of defensive responsibility but as the home team surely Hartley can manage to match lines well enough to get them out there in favorable situations.

Speaking of square pegs and round holes, Bouma's game would be much better suited to playing with two bruisers like Ern and BB than with Backlund and Raymond.

Against Vancouver those lines actually make a lot of sense. Stajan starts in a more limited role on a 4th line this game, which means another line will be facing the Sedins. Backlund and Bouma were some of our best defensive forwards last year, meanwhile Raymond's speed will be used for a quick counter attack. I fully expect them to take most of the faceoffs in our zone. If it doesn't workout I expect Stajan to take over the defensive line, meanwhile Colborne will be switched to the wing.

I'm guessing Burke didn't see Gaudreau sitting there.

I like Bouma up the depth chart. IMO he is very under rated, even after his exception defensive displays last year. He is Prust type heart and soul player.

Is Colborne at center their Moby Dick or something? Should have had Stajan in-between Guadreau and Colborne with Bouma at C on the fourth.

Meanwhile, Johnny Gaudreau (not Canadian) had no idea what a TimBit was.

I'm totally fine with Stajan on the 4th line between two pugilists. He'll do the bulk of the defensive work and give those two the opportunity to crash and bang up ice. Not to mention, out of our 4 centers (or 5 if you include Bouma) he is probably the least talented offensively. I'd rather give offensive opportunities to Monahan, Backlund, and Colborne and let Stajan be the dependable veteran we signed him to be.

Maybe I'm crazy, but is anyone else taking that as a sign that Backlund and Baertschi are about to be dealt?

Yep, they have always ironed it before and now that Baertschi is in the AHL and Backlund is starting in the NHL it all seems a bit too conspicuous.

And, Johnny Gaudreau did — in fact — get #13 according to the opening day roster that just landed on my lap.
Alright!
