Olympics. He played out of his mind.

Have to say as of today that Montreal has the best odds. They aren't great odds, but they're the best.

Wow, Jets... really?
Short Term - Habs, highly unlikely of course, but right now they appear to be the closest although losing Gorges is going to hurt. Not a contender, but a red hot Price and Subban can take you far.
Mid Term - Why not Ottawa, some solid but under the radar moves, not much talk or hype, but quietly gathering assets. Sure, Dallas robbed them of Spezza, but I like the potential of their blueline.
Long Term - Calgary perhaps, or Ottawa again?
Jets are going nowhere and doing nothing. Cheveldayoff (sp?) actually needs to improve the team in order to you know, improve the team.
Edmonton is fail, always.
Vancouver, does not have the goods right now, and too far away from a rebuild to compete mid - long term.

Jets are my pick to finish last among Canadian teams this year. Even the mighty Grease will finish ahead of them. The shine is starting to wear off on the new toy in my Manitoba home town.

Habs or possibly Ottawa. Just don't see any teams in the west making a push in the next 5 years.

Probably Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver.
But I don't see anyone doing it any time soon. The next Canadian team who does it will probably be in years and with a very different roster than the team has now.

If Galchenyuk starts to look like the player he was supposed to be, I could see Montreal doing it within the next 3 years.

I hate the Oilers, but you or I cannot blatently state they don't have the talent. Hall, Draisaitl and RNH if surrounded by the right kind of team are catalysts to success. Cannot fault them for being a part of a poorly run organization.

I don't think that one can make a convincing argument for either Toronto or especially Vancouver. Not only do they play in the ultra competitive Pacific division, they are now a whole world removed from the team that went to the SCF in 2010, and are continuing to diminish.

Yeah, they're young and they all still have their best years ahead of them. But based on what I have seen from the Oilers uber-draftees so far—which is quite a lot, actually—I am extremely underwhelmed.

Montreal can in these next few years, but I really think it will be us that breaks the streak; Which means it will be a while.

You could easily say it's difficult to make a convincing argument for any team outside Montreal. However, the title of the thread is what team is most likely to win first and I listed in order my top 3.

When you really think about it it's kind of sad that there's really not a lot of hope on the horizon for Canada. Montreal definitely has the best chance in the coming few years as the East is so mediocre that any team can get a goaltender on a roll in the playoffs and make the finals. That said though there is so much drama and controversy that dogs the Habs in the playoffs with their fans and media being life and death after every single game that it must be exhausting for their players compared to other markets. They seem to always run out of gas a round before the finals.

The Quebec Nordiques after the Florida Panthers are re-located there.

Maybe the NHL could coordinate a special "Canada Cup" after the regular season for all the Canadian teams that miss the cut.

I can certainly understand Jets4Life's thought processes here. He is a fan of a team that is run as poorly as the Oilers and, now that the initial honeymoon has ended, is as irrelevant as the Senators. This wasn't an honest question or opinion, but a desperate plea for attention.
The Jets have a few pieces, sure. But they aren't even a huge threat to break into sixth in the Central, let alone contend for a Cup. Continued good drafting might help, but given the franchise is loathe to spend money, the Jets seem to be on the verge of becoming a feeder team for everyone else. I'd bet on Kane and Byfuglien being traded before that team sniffs a post-season berth.
