The fact that all people ever seem to talk about is the crowd, and crowd experience when it comes to pro soccer, is very telling about the actual sport itself.
"Man you should have seen the ridiculous end to end goal Ovechkin scored, he skated through 4 players, and went top shelf. It was amazing."
"You should have seen the awesome chant at Olde Timey Ale Stadium. They rhymed boot with hoot and kept repeating it for 90 minutes.....yeah, it was awesome."

"I saw it on my 46 inch HD TV, from three different angles in slow-motion."
If it's all about focusing on the game, TV is a way better interface than live.

Not necessarily. You do not get the same feel for how the plays are developing in real time, and the sheer speed of the game. When you sit in lower bowl seats, it is mind blowing how much faster the game is in real time without a camera following it. And how big and powerful the players actually are.
It is the same for NFL. If you sit in the first 20 rows at an NFL game, you brain can barely comprehend the size and athleticism of the men on the field. They are gentic freaks. They look like superheroes when you see some 6'5" 240 pound wide receiver leaping 3 feet into the air to catch a ball, then covering ground like an Olympic sprinter.

Obviously not.
You seem to mention it in every single post that you have wrote. Just give it a rest and talk about supporters sections in the nhl. It has nothing to do with soccer in Europe. Where obviously fans just look at each other and fight, which is your crappy argument

I'm a Whitecaps season ticket holder and it's definitely manufactured here; but that grows as more people get into it, get familiar with the chants etc.
A lot of fans want to enjoy this sort of atmosphere, but it's hard to start a section like that or chants on your own. If the manufactured section is big enough to get it going, I think a lot of the general arena would join in too.
|
I'm not sure what you mean by manufactured? Having the FO allow a group sit together in General Admission so they can sing and scream their lungs out? There is no input from the marketing dept and is fan driven without the jumbotron telling you what to do or say.
I'm all for improving the in game experience and supporter culture helps with that especially when teams are competing with HD.
It will take time. I was not surprised when the Whitecap's supporter group were kicked out of a Canucks game for starting to chant so fans like Pylon could enjoy their library like experience, sit on their hands and enjoy their clear site lines with binoculars and grey poupon.

I think if the rumours are true and Seattle got an nhl team they would be able to do something like a supporters section. They back thier local teams very well Seahawks and soundedrs have great atmosphere at the games

You're letting your hate of soccer get in the way of even discussing the point of the thread.
What would be so bad about a section that allowed standing and cheering? Even if you didn't want to be in that area it would still be beneficial to you because you would likely have a few less rowdy people in whatever section you chose to sit in.

I am liking the hockey vs soccer talk that dissipated after the World Cup...
Get back on topic, I think even though the Flames can turn a couple of Press Level Sections into the supporters section, it will not work well. No one can see them, and without any organization, it will just turned out to be a bunch of random kids trying to load up on liquor there.
I do want to see if one day there are real ultras-like supporter clubs for hockey. Chorographed chants, giant banner displays, organized fights against rival ultras, beating the police, etc. will be fun.

The banner at the bottom says "on the search for the lost cup" guessing that's the reason behind it

There is nothing factual about your statement at all, there's amazing goals in soccer every single week.
We get it, you don't like soccer. You're entitled to your opinion, just as us poverty stricken soccer fans are entitled to think your preference for mullets and Trooper songs as stadium atmosphere is pretty damn lame.

I was fortunate enough to go to a couple of playoff games during the 04 run.
Seriously so loud you could not hear yourself scream. My buddy had a cowbell that he was ringing the entire time and I could not hear it above the noise. I remember laying in bed and my ears were still ringing from the game.
When the Flames make the playoffs again nothing will be manufactured to make some noise, the excitement of being there will be more than enough to leave your ears bleeding. Can't wait for the next installment of the C of Red.
