Some women spend that on a purse...... Different strokes for different folks. People work hard for their money, whatever makes them happy.

I do beer runs all the time down to Montana. Used to be Shelby when I lived in Lethbridge, and now it's Eureka with me being further West (or i'll just bite the bullet and go to Whitefish as I've got friends with cabins there). I have yet to pay duty and i will go and get 5 30 packs at a time. I will tell the border cop that I'm just doing a beer run. I've been 5 times this summer already. Even if I have to pay, it's cheaper than Canadian beer, so I win

Either way, sounds classy....

Go down to Missoula, catch a Griz NCAA football game and shop at all the places - including a nicer mall than Great Falls. They also have Fuddruckers, which is important.

I will write more about my trip to Montana when I have a chance, but my girlfriend and I each brought a 30 pack of Coors Banquet back with us and the border cop didn't seem to care at all.

What's the deal with car pats / car repairs in the states? Someone once mentioned that getting your car repaired you have to pay tax on the whole value of the vehicle, is this actually true?

Modified.
If your car breaks down, and you have a necessary repair done (eg: fan belt blew out, tire blew out) to make the vehicle drivable again the charge is not on the entire vehicle.
However if you have it modified (new rims just because, engine swap, body parts, whatever), they no longer consider it the same vehicle and can charge you duty (and tax IIRC) on the value of the entire thing.
Same goes for modifying jewellery (eg: a new stone in an old setting), and other products.
Also, it's complete crap.

Planning a 2 day trip to Montana (Whitefish area) pretty soon and wondering if people had some cool and interesting things to do? (Glacier National park etc.?) Crazy I know but not really planning to ski, golf, or purchase
$8 T-shirts at Target.

Good call, as shopping is a no go as CAD exchange adds in 25-30% on top right away. Deals locally are better.

We live 2.5 hours from Whitefish and quite often do day trips down there. If you are looking for food, go south of Kalispell 10 minutes to Lakeside and you'll hit Tamerack Brewing Company (which is Lanny's brewery).
There is plenty of hiking this time year.
10 minutes East of Whitefish is Glacier Distilling if you want to learn how Whiskey is made in MT.
PM me with any other questions.

If you like Mexican food or Mexican fusion, go to Pescada Blanco in Whitefish. Get the Elk Chorizo tacos. MMMMMM.
There is always something fun going on in the Flathead Valley and now is a great time to visit Glacier as well.
If you go to the post office in Whitefish tell them I sent you.

Not a diss at all, I was just reminded of the last time I was down there and the vehicle ahead of us held everyone up because he had a trunk and backseat full of booze he didn't declare. Good for you for saving money.
Not sure what the limit is for alcohol, but Great Falls has some decent shopping and Billings is ok but is a longer drive down
