Its a blast. I recommend you go before the event is over because as soon as you go you'll want to go again.
back on train:
Standup comedy is a good first date because its cheap, you get to interact with each other and she laughs the whole time and thus has a good time. Plus obviously the anal is pretty much guaranteed.

Get some ice cream on 17th Ave, and go for a walk. If dates lame you can leave after afterwards.

This thread could use some input from a double-X-chromosome toting person.
For the love of Pete, do not invite a woman to your place for a home-cooked meal on a first date! Its just weird. And awkward. If you aren't already well-acquainted, she's just going to feel uncomfortable the whole time rather than enjoy the date. Plus, she'll have to sit there and twiddle her thumbs while you cook, and then pretend to like what you made. I promise you you, she will notice every single instance of less than perfect housekeeping in your bathroom and hold it against you. Unless you're a fabulous conversationalist, AND a great cook AND are 100% certain there are no errant pubes or toenail clippings in your bathroom, do not do a first date at your place. Subsequent dates - sure. Just not the first.
Anything where you will do something active like hiking, ziplining, museum, Science Centre, skating, real golf, mini-golf, pool - these are good. You had an experience together, and now you have something to talk about.
Dinner & movie is meh. Like someone else already said, you sit in the dark and don't interact with each other. If you're going to do this, see the movie first, then eat. At least you have something to talk about over dinner.
Live entertainment - music, play, comedy club. These are good. They're fun, they're interactive, and you get an easy conversation-starter out of it.
The Ship is ok - but use caution. If its a regular hang out for both of you - it won't feel much like a date, it'll just feel like hanging out. A woman wants to go out on a "date", not just hang out. Hanging out = friend zone. If she's never been to the Ship before, you might struggle to find something to talk about, or hear each other over the weekend roar.
Fireworks are good. Floating down the river is good (check to make sure she can swim/isn't afraid of fish first). Wine tasting is good. Shakespeare in the Park is good (you'll be bored out your mind, but hey, she'll like it.)
Amusement parks are fun. Too bad you missed Stampede. Calaway Park seems a little hokey - but maybe you could play it right? (Do not attempt to win teddy bears unless you're sure you can do it. Just pony up for drinks/snacks instead.)
I think the shooting range/gun club is a great idea.
Make a first date light and fun, with a reasonable ending time in sight. You don't want to put yourself on the spot to entertain a near stranger all by yourself for hours.
If you pick something active, remember that women in general, have a lower tolerance for risking life and limb than guys do. You may need to scale back the activity accordingly. If your main mode of transit is a motorcyle, bear in mind that women rarely enjoy being stuck on the back of a crotch-rocket being driven at 200km/hr by a maniac.
The basement of Chicken On The Way is a bad idea. Its grungy, and the place really needs a good cleaning.
I think I'm done. Just be yourself, dear.

I figured polak could just speak in a Polish accent and it was good enough.

I always like going to a classy pub that has pool and or foosball tables. Makes it easy to start with drinks and then transition to games before the conversation starts to die. Any suggestions for such a place in Calgary? (I'm new in town). Preferably relativly inner city, and like I said more of a classier pub (doesn't have to be fancy, but not an old sportsbar where the old timers hang out to get drunk).

I suggested a movie once for a second date ("The Artist" - I thought a silent film might be interesting and make for good discussion), and the guy literally lost his #### on me. Like swearing was involved because he was so upset I would even suggest a movie. Needless to say there was no second date. Thanks for revealing yourself to be a total rage case. :/
Anyways, I think it's a matter of knowing/guessing your audience. Like for example, I would hate a Calaway Park date. Too cheesy. But maybe some ladies would love it?
Anyways. Fireworks are good. I was also going to suggest brunch. Mostly because brunch is delicious.

Hah, no accent for me. I've been Canadian-washed.
Plus I don't think I've ever met a girl that likes a Polish/Eastern European accent?
The flip side of that though, Speaking Polish with a foreign accent, works well in Poland... Usually... Sometimes they just think you're handicapped... that might not be the accent though...
