It was sad to see him leave at his prime - I felt had he played a few more seasons, his number just might be hanging from the rafters. He was one of the most gifted Flames of all time, and one of the biggest treats to watch as a fan every night.

In 83-84, Loob was 4th in team scoring, 25 pts behind Nilsson who played 10 fewer games.
In 84-85, Loob was tied for 2nd in team scoring with Carey Wilson, 27 pts behind Nilsson.
In 85-86, Loob was 5th in team scoring. He did have the highest ppg, but that season Suter and MacInnis both had 68 pts from the blue line.
In 86-87, Loob was 10th in team scoring, 43 pts behind Joe Mullen.
In 87-88, Loob lead the team in scoring, narrowly beating out Mike Bullard.
In 88-89, Loob was tied for 2nd in team scoring with Gilmour, who had a slightly higher ppg, 25 pts behind Mullen.
So, you have a pure offensive player who, in his NHL career, had one really dominant season, and who was routinely in the offensive backseat to other teammates. Had he stayed 3 more seasons, Huselius could have put together a similar resume.
Fun to watch, awe inspiring skill, but not in the league of Iginla

Iggy should be an easy 100%. Shame on those who see it otherwise.

I love Loob... But...
Iggy
Kipper
MacInnis
Suter
Roberts
Makarov
Nilsson
Nieuwendyk
Gilmour
Mullen
Otto
Vernon
McDonald
Regehr
Fleury
... I mean, we can argue forever about where he fits on the list, but he certainly is not easily in the Top 5...as the poster you responded to mentioned, it can be argued he's not even Top 10.

Iginla, without question. Not even a pity/charity vote for Loob on this one.
That said, the single biggest reason why the Flames only won the one Cup was Loob's departure at the peak of his career. That was a crushing loss that really kicked off the franchise's decline in the decade that followed.

I think the fact that he left in his prime and only played for one NHL team created a mystique about him. He was good, but I don't think he should be anywhere near Iginla in this poll.

In his first three years back in Sweden, Loob led the Elitserien in scoring each time twice won the Swedish equivalent to the Ted Lindsay Award. I don't think that is a case of "mystique". Imagine if Iginla retired after 2001-02. That's about what happened to us when Loob left. But you are right, Loob doesn't rank near Iginla, only because Iginla was that damn good.

Voted Paul Kruse only because I discovered literally two days ago that I have his hockey card, and it's weird seeing a non-relevant player wearing #12.
