That could be a real bargain in year 2. A bit surprise the Flames got him to sign for so low. You would think he could get a lot more if he went to the KHL. Nice to see that Ortio is dedicated on playing in the NHL.

No. Goalies get an extra year of waiver exemption.

Ortio isn't going to wait to push for a spot on the #Flames either. He's looking to be the starter come September.

Ortio: "At this point, it is crucial to get a lot of games in. I want them to be in the NHL and that’s my goal that I’m working towards."

Pushing to be the starter with Ramo and Hiller on the big club already? I like Ortio

I guess I shouldn't try to sound intelligent at 3am. Oops.

I love the Flames message here and I love that Ortio is totally buying into it. I wish every Flame had this guys attitude. No nonsense to the guy, total stud.

The overall contract is actually lower then last year as the NHL salary was $630,000 and a $80,000 signing bonus. He also had potentially $130,000 in performance bonuses. This new contract does not have any signing or performance bonuses.
Except he does have a one-way contract in 2015-2016 which means he's likely to make more money that year than the previous 4 years combined.
