So did they ever find the driver or not? If the driver was never found, makes sense why he hasnt been charged. If the driver was found, why wasnt he charged in the very least for fleeing the scene of an accident and given sarich's sate, even more based on the fact Sarich could have died and he did nothing to help... Something missing here. Gotta be.

They know the driver and I'm not 100% sure he fled the scene.
From the artcle: "It is unclear whether the RCMP will press charges against the driver. Following the accident, the Invermere Valley Echo reported the RCMP said alcohol was not a factor and the investigation was still ongoing"

It definitely seems weird that the RCMP haven't pressed charges for him fleeing the scene.
I sounds like the ford did leave and the people in the jeep helped him, not the guy who ran him over, but who knows.
Is this not the drivers fault? Isn't the biker coming from the opposite direction considered traffic? Seems weird that the driver would go for it knowing the biker is coming down a hill. If he was driving a car and hit him, it would be the trucks fault, not Sarich's fault. Why is it different here?

If he didn't flee the scene, what would you charge him for? Accidents happen all the time

Because habernac sees this horse**** all the time.....the horse**** which although he didn't see this time, warrants a charge, due to him seeing it all the time.

Motorists get a free pass 80% of the time when bikes are involved. This guy turned into a cyclist who had the right of way. Is it an accident? Sure. But it's also his fault. I don't care if it's an accident. I don't want people like that on the road.

Probably something relatively minor like an unsafe left turn. Accidents do happen all of the time, and I'm guessing that charges like this are also very common and aren't limited to bigger charges like DUI, fleeing, etc.
Years ago, someone turned out in front of my wife (who had the right of way) and she t-boned him. He was charged with something like "failing to proceed safely at an intersection" (I can't remember the exact wording). Probably came with a fine and demerits.

He should be fined for what he did. It is dangerous driving, I agree with habernac that he/she shouldn't be getting away without any repercussions.

I vote habernac as Judge and yourself as Executioner
Fact is all we have is Corys statement that the truck turned left without signaling...hate to say it but there are two sides to a story involving two people.

Using this criteria would force about 97% of the cyclists in Calgary off the road too.

Excuse my ignorance but even if the truck did signal, doesn't Sarich still have the right of way?

Similar to the Herald story above, but from the Denver Post:
http://www.denverpost.com/avalanche/...-horrific-bike
Quote:
Sarich said he has not undergone surgery for any of his injuries, but he realizes a knee and an elbow "need to be fixed." His back injuries could come to that too, but the most obvious evidence of the accident — "a divot taken out the side of my head" — has not been diagnosed as brain trauma. "I have a bald spot about the size of a tennis ball on the side of my head," Sarich said. "The scab is slowly getting smaller."
|
Reading this story, I get the impression that Sarich probably thinks his hockey career is over, even if he's going to do what he can to work his way back into shape.
If nothing else, it would be kind of cool if he did get back into healthy shape and the Flames signed him at the end of the season for a game or two - likely as a swansong.
