I really don't think this move impacts Vancouver's chances of getting McDavid. Last season, goaltending was not really the issue with Luongo and Lack. It was scoring goals in the Pacific division.
There are no longer any viable top 6 forwards left in free agency and Vancouver lost their best goal scorer from last season (Kesler). Even though Garrison played pretty poor defense, he was still much better than Edler and produced 33 pts. He's gone too.
Vancouver has younger players coming up. But for them to grow, they need to make mistakes first. Canucks are literally 1 Sedin injury away from being a true bottom feeder. I think Calgary was a really solid team despite their record last year and the signing of Hiller is a really nice one. We'll see what happens.
*Sidenote: I had both Backlund and Cammalleri in my hockey pool last season and they were amazing for me near the back end of the season. More consistent than Stamkos haha!

Sure but he was playing for that average-terrible Buffalo Sabre team all those years.

1. Moving to St. Louis didn't seem to help, although to be fair he didn't get much of a chance to figure out how to play behind them.
2. Does being on a crap team really make your save percentage drop? I don't actually know. They gave up a lot of shots, and he stopped a high percentage of them. Might actually be easier to stop 37 of 40 than 23 of 25.

Obviously if this was still Gillis as GM it'd be 7 years and $50 million. Just underscores what a horrific job he did bungling that situation. Miller is overrated and will now have by far the worst defensive team in front of him he's had. But his wife is happy so whatever.

1. From an interview I heard on radio, they did say Miller didn't have enough time to adjust to the play style of the Blues and that frustrated their team.
2. I think it's kind of a double edged sword. You face more shots which makes you get into the game easier but it's alot more tiring over the course of the season. Also, many of those shots are of the high quality chances cause lets be honest, Buffalo doesn't have any capable defensemen. Even Myers has been declining every year.

LOL he played for last year's Buffalo Sabres. Suggesting that the Canucks are worse than them defensively is absurd. The Canucks' problems are more on the "goals for" side than "goals against".

Miller just got presented his Nuck jersey. He has no idea what he's in for.

Miller looks disgusting in that jersey. Just became a lot easier to hate on him.

Upgrade in net for the Nucks, but arguable at how much of an upgrade. Miller has had a few outstanding seasons. He has also been mediocre. High-priced, and with the term, a bit too much gamble for them IMO.
Hope it blows up in their faces though. It could go either way. Just glad he got term and a high dollar amount!

Can't wait to see sad / pout face Miller in Vancouver after constantly getting lit up. The media and fans will eat him alive. He's a guy trending down on a team trending down. Great fit!

Doesn't Miller generally throw his team under the bus when he's frustrated? Luongo never did that IIRC.
This might spice up the pacific rivalry tbh. I'll give the move a sideway thumbs up for now.

I can't see how this will go well for Miller or the Canucks.

I can see how it could, but it probably won't.
Incidentally I just saw the picture of him in the Canucks jersey and it never struck me how much he reminds me of that yellow guy from Sin City with the giant head who kidnaps Jessica Alba.

Very predictable signing. The team that didn't want their two NHL goalies signs the goalie that wasn't wanted by his two teams last year.
I do not see this helping the Canucks stay out of the Pacific basement though. Miller is basically a Luongo replacement on a better contract. The only good part of the Canucks is their starting line-up and once injuries hit their depth will be horribly exposed again.
