2 (formerly) big name Cs (Kesler, Spezza) being dealt for very pedestrian returns in the last few days. Im suprised thats the best deal they could get for Spezza and Kesler screwed the Canucks with his list of 2.

All of these NTC's and NMC's are going to lead to another lock out with the next bargaining agreement.
No way that the owners let their teams get this handcuffed again, we've seen to many getting screwed over in the past few years.

Neither of them are winners IMO. Maybe that's why. Kesler is a ######bag. Spezza is a guy that only plays in one zone.
Meh. Both are b list celebs in the NHL. Glad the Flames are not after guys like this.

Isn't the next potential lockout more than 8 years away? Teams can't even sign contracts that long, so hard to say contracts stipulations now are going to affect the CBA that far in the future. A lot can happen in 8 years.

For those still hating the Jankowski pick just look to Chiasson, was 6'2 170lbs when drafted and now is a solid looking player at 6'3 205lbs.

There is nothing super sexy in the return for Ottawa but they get some decent assets. Chiasson is becoming a solid power forward. He needs to fill out a bit but he's on the right path and will be a 20+ goal guy.
Guptill is also tall which teams like though he seems more of a speed guy than power forward. He's just out of college but scouting reports were pretty complementary. He's not a prospect that will make The Sens out of camp or anything, but there is some potential there.
The second in a deep draft year is valuable. That should be around the 50th pick and quite tradable.
Paul is still in the OHL and young enough he might do something and Karlsson is in the ECHL and one step away from going back to the SEL in my mind. We can just call this the dufus for dufus part of the deal though.
Spezza is the best proven part of course and for that Dallas wins but I don't think they get a shiny new penny in the deal and it could go south on them just as easily. Spezza could try and carry too many pancakes one day and there goes his back. He's also 31 and hasn't been a PPG guy for a couple of seasons. Ottawa wasn't also in the best position here. They ended up getting something for the guy and can move on now. Very similar to us and Iginla.

This trade makes the Bouwmeester and Iginla trade return look a lot better.
I just seems that the "elite" players making 6+M don't bring back what the fanbase would expect from them.
It seems that even a mid to late 1st round pick has taken on a lot more value.

No it doesn't 2 years later and not at trade deadline with completely different circumstances.

I wonder how many Senators fans had to read this again when they saw that Karlsson was a part of this trade.

Maybe I'm out to lunch here, but I think Alex Chaisson is a hell of a prospect.

Good fit for both teams. Chiasson is going to be a perennial 20 goal scorer IMO. Plus a lot of other prospects and picks. Dallas has a 1-2 punch at center that can rival the best in the league.

Not going to pretend I watched a bunch of stars games, but Chiasson seemed pretty legit vs the Flames at least.

His weight and height are probably two of the last things people are worried about when it comes to Jankowski.
