If Toronto didn't give Clarkson that boat anchor of a contract there wouldn't be third liners (Bolland) expecting $5+ million a year on a long term deal right now.

You're going to blame this on the Leafs? What about all the other contracts before that (Or signed the same day like Clowe, Horton).

That is crazy money
Along with the Keith and Hossa deals that is a lot of cap space for only 4 players
4 very good players but still say goodbye to Seabrook and Sharp
This is Kypreos though so...

I don't think Kane and Toews will reach 8 figure money, but still a high $ amount. I think they'll be getting 72-76m contracts (9-9.5 x 8 years).

$40M for Bolland over 8 years is absolutely insane.
He's a $4M AAV over 3 years player tops.
Toronto shouldn't even think about considering that. The second a role player like Bolland asks for an 8 year contract, you say goodbye.

No chance Bolland is getting that deal. IMO, he'sdone in Toronto. They need to find a spot for Holland.

Let them do it ... Clarkson and Bolland tied for over 10m for the next few years would be laughable.

Leafs and Rangers among several teams interested in UFA Dan Boyle. Toronto's interest said to be ``serious.''

More like 1-2 years.

Barring last-minute setback, expectation is that Kings and Gaborik nearing completion of a contract extension later today...

With Gaborik most likely signing with LA again, I know Iggy probably never considered going to LA, but I think in a way Gaborik's contract can affect what Iggy might want from Boston.

Big interest in Matt Niskanen. First call came in at 12:05. Penguins expected to circle back now that coach is hired, Pitt. still an option.

Iggy can ask for whatever he wants - Boston needs to make some moves first before anything can happen.

If the Flames (or any other team) offer Stastny 7 years @8.5 and he agrees to terms I am pretty sure one of the conditions to the offer is that it is signed NOW. No cycling back... If he leaves the room the deal is off the table and there is nothing from stopping Burke from telling Colorado that the deal is off the table.
The purpose of negotiating and coming to a deal is to help the Flames... not to help the player get a better deal.

The only team that can sign him right now is the Avalanche. No other team can sign him until July 1st, unless they trade for his rights.

Veteran forwards Dany Heatley + Ryan Malone will have to be patient in free agency. Willingness to take 1 year deals will draw attention.

... ok, but It's also not to help other teams get leverage in negotiations with players. I'd be fine with it... I either end up getting a player I want at a price I find acceptable or I end up depleting the budget/cap space of a rival team. Win-win.

What does this mean? Might lower the market?
