Chris Butler did not block a lot of shots.

A lot of shots just happened to hit him.

Good, now lets make an asset out of his roster spot.

I think we have a few choices(based on how the team played towards the end of last year):
1. Jones
2.Wideman
3.Glencross
4.UFA
5.Russel/Stajan(both had a good year, I just don't know if it will be the norm or the exception)

So he lead the league in accidental shot blocks then? If I didn't care about winning, I sure as hell wouldn't be standing in front of a frozen puck.

Side note to this, what does everyone imagine Hitler's nickname would be if he played in the NHL? The obvious choice would be 'Führer', but I think the wealth of creativity in the league would hook him up with 'Hits'.

I can see Hitler huddled over in his locker stall, game face on, stupid moustache waxed, and then some one taps him on the pants and says 'let's go, Hitsy'. It fits the best.

What term and $ would you guys offer to Niskanen?
He's going to get at least 5.5M over 6 years.

If he has a decent agent, 3 years 7.5 should be attainable for him

Pleased with this. I would have had him moved along well before this.
If he stays in the NHL - which is not a given in my opinion - I hope he signs with a division rival.

He gives up the blueline way too easily, and is constantly beat outside. His first pass is inconsistent at best. He has little physical element to his game as well, despite his size.

Given what he added to our lineup, I believe the time is better spent by giving many of our d prospects a shot.

Not a huge fan, for obvious reasons, but he will need to be replaced. We are so thin on D and the UFA class this year isn't that great. I'd personally avoid the 35+ crowd.
Niskanen will cost too much, maybe Nikitin?

Butler would have been a key piece for operation McDavid.

I don't know if Wotherspoon will start the year. Didn't he have season-ending shoulder injury-an injury that could take awhile to heal?

At the very least, this might open up a good battle in camp. The Flames might be pushing to have one of the young guys come in and earn a spot. This would be the best result for fans, if it doesn't pan out they can make a trade.

That or we pick up a UFA player, I like mine better though.
