My fiancé (I'm a girl) and I went to the game in Nashville last March. We are fans of all live music (yes, including country) and decided it would be cool to see a game at Bridgestone.
Tuesday afternoon we were ready for our first drink and based on Rhett's rave reviews, we decided to check out Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. The place is fun, but tiny. As we walk by, my fiancé says that he thinks he saw Glencross sitting there. I peek in and lo and behold, he IS there with Wideman. We walk in and find a spot several feet away from them. It's my round so I ask the bartender for a couple drinks and have her send a round to 20 and 6. They send us a salute as well as a couple of beers. We are star struck but too shy to talk.
Next thing you know, the team is trickling in..Bouw, Gio, MacDonald, Butler, Stajan, Brodie, Smith, Sarich, Comeau...and finally Kipper - first appearance after a new baby! We chatted with a few of the guys if they passed to hit the washroom but left them otherwise alone. (FWIW - Butler was by far the most friendly). It was Rookie dinner night and they were preparing for a good time..
Still too shy (and possibly tipsy) to make decent conversation, Chris and I head out. A little later that night, we hit another spot and immediately I spot the legend Peter Maher. (I'm pretty sure we were at Legends so it was a propos.). He is there with Mike Rogers and Charlie Simmer. We end up chatting with them for a few hours, and learn a few things particularly about some of the players who were not with the rest of the team at Tootsie's. The night was capped off by an invite by Pete and Mike to attend practice the next day. It was a once in a lifetime experience.
