What a joke, 250,000 for a broken orbital bone?

A pretty painful bone to have broken. If someone punched me and broke mine, I'd be hurting them in their pocket book too.

As far as Ferland being guilty, it's up to the courts to decide that fate.

I got sucker punched outside the Drum and Monkey and broke an orbital bone. Where's my 250K? Police never caught the guys who did it.

I thought they said fractured orbital bone. Fracture definitely sounds a lot worse than it is and definitely isn't a break. I fractured my cheek bone and it wasn't a big deal at all.

This is what it was all about…money.

Ferland will offer whatever he figures he will have to pay to defend and this thing goes away.

Oh….as soon as the RCMP guy testified this thing was more down than originally and it was a joke to begin with. Bunch of drunk guys get in a scuffle….if there isn't a very serious injury or a cop witnessing it then it will go nowhere every time.

Huge waste of taxpayer money and resources……guy should be paying the crown for waste of friggin' time.

Fracture = break

I don't know why people try to differentiate the two.

My mother in law told me she got contusions from her car accident. She insisted the doctor told her they were much worse than a bruise

Ya but its not anything that's detrimental to your future health, my brother had his broken in a hockey fight in house league of all places. He had to get surgery but its all good now. Just someone looking for a pay day, I know personally if I was drunk and "not totally innocent" I wouldn't be looking for compensation for my poor decisions

Yeah, I broke my cheekbone too. Couldn't blow my nose for two weeks or the side of my face would swell up.

I take fracture as in the bone had cracked but not completely broken. A break is where the bone has actually broken in two. I don't claim to be a doctor but that's how I've always viewed the difference.

If the guy gets an offer worth enough to buy a decent used pickup truck, he should take the money and run.
I'm not sure if he got a signing bonus or not but even with it, Ferland is not likely to have earned $250,000 in total until about 2-3 years from now. Pretty much impossible that a jury or judge would find him liable for more than triple his annual salary for the other guy having a broken orbital bone-unless he's a male model.

I wonder if the plaintiff can turn left.

Broken in two = compound fracture.

Guys... Do 2 seconds of research. That's all it takes to not look silly or be ripped apart on CP.

CP life lesson.

An open fracture, also called a compound fracture, is an injury that occurs when there is a break in the skin around a broken bone. In order for an injury to be classified as a compound fracture, the outside air (and dirt and bacteria) must be able to get to the fracture site without a barrier of skin or soft-tissue. Therefore, a bone does not need to be through the skin in order for the injury to be called a compound fracture.

A fracture is a broken bone. A broken bone is a fracture.
People believe that a fracture is a "hairline break," or a certain type of broken bone, its not. A fracture and a broken bone are the same thing.
Both of these words mean that the normal bone structure has been disrupted.
