Yeah ... he can totally afford to be patient.

I've heard his name brought up the last couple of summers. Won't be surprised if he gets a GM job in the next couple of years. I'm just glad he won't be GM of the flames

There was some talk he was in the running for the Montreal opening a couple of years ago, before it went to Bergevin. At the very least he interviewed in Montreal, according to TSN anyways. So its not the first time he was considered.

Weird hire for the Pens for sure, but I guess experience is a good thing to have. Pens are going to be busy this offseason trying to get a team that will fit under the cap.
Not much money and not enough players signed for next year. Could see some major changes IMO.

I am pretty sure he has been in the running for 2 or 3 other jobs too. I thought I heard he interviewed for the Flames in 2003, I kknow he interviewed for the Wild when they hired Fletcher and then his name came up with the Habs as well. Seems to be a pretty common occurrence for him to be in the running for a job.
He also has a great TV gig that he appears to love, so yeah he can afford to be as patient as he likes.

You wonder who much McGuire wants to be a GM. He's always interviewing for GM positions but he's not taking any GM positions or even scouting positions. I suppose he's the type who has principles. He likes his TV position and if it's not a GM position he's not leaving.

One of my goals in life is to kiss Pierre Mcguire on his shiny bald head.

The Penguins position is the only time I have ever heard he's been offered anything. He's interviewed in the past for a small handful of jobs but I don't recall him even being on a short list and certainly not offered the job.

I wonder how the interviews with him go?
Tell me about a time when you didn't act like a complete moron on national TV?

Wow, the continued general hatred and contempt on this board for a member of the media has reached a new height, or is it low!!

Hands up
Who would love to have McGuire's current gig?

Rutherford has also said that he didn't speak to Blysma at all in the 6 hours they were 'working together'. Call came from higher up.

I'd rather have Beasley's gig.

Crosby, Malkin, Letang, a cupboard full of defense prospects, and a team that has massively under-achieved for the past few years.
What aspiring GM candidate wouldn't jump all over that opportunity?
For anyone who believes in their own abilities, term shouldn't be a deal breaker (though of course people have their own preferences). I would be more concerned with the opportunity, personally. And having Crosby under contract for life seems like a pretty good opportunity to me.

Absolutely, I would. But I would MUCH rather be the GM of an NHL team.

Broadcaster is an easier job and the job security is a lot better.

Rutherford teams made playoffs 5 out of 20 years.
Not nearly good enough in the NHL

I personally have nothing against the guy and don't mind McGuire on television unlike some others. He's had his embarrassing moments but he has some good insight at times but he's overall pretty good at what he does on TV. The thought of him becoming an NHL GM is ludicrous though IMO.

Wow.
Who else - other than Kevin Lowe - can throw out numbers like that?
