I really liked the 2nd episode and it is the talk of my work place right now. I'll be all over the 3rd show next week as well. Good stuff here. It might not make much of a dent with someone that is looking for another Mad Men, Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad, but clearly plenty of people are pretty into it.
It's far and away better than SHIELD and has plenty more potential going forward as it develops into future seasons.

Yeah I agree. First two episodes of Gotham have kinda grated me so far. Like I said earlier, no subtlety whatsoever, which is something that a show like Gotham badly needs. No need to keep bashing over our heads the fact that this is the same Gotham as Batman's Gotham. Like seriously, 12-year old Bruce Wayne is standing on ledges and burning his hand with candles. He might as well start practicing changing his voice up now.
SHIELD shows more restraint in the fact that they're not always bashing the fact that they're in the same universe as the Marvel movies. They do occasionally, generally before and after a Marvel movie is released, but that's to be expected. This season should be much better for that though since there are no movies coming out until Avengers. And if that short intro from the first episode is any indication, the Agent Carter short series coming out in January should be fantastic.
I REALLY want Gotham to be good. Great source material and great idea for a prequel. But so far it's been underwhelming and kinda annoying.

liked the second episode a lot more than the 1st. I like what reviewer Jeremy Jahns said. He said that they should've kept the Wayne's for at least one season because nobody's ever explored that. Also that they're forcing too many obvious easter eggs. Like calling Selena Cat, having Bruce testing his fears (which I like but prefer to have it a bit later) and calling Pam Isley, Ivy. Really excited to see how this show develops because I think they set up a great series.

See now that I would have watched. Wayne Sr. is always portrayed as a huge figure in Gotham but no one has ever really delved into his story at all, and a show like this would have been the perfect opportunity. Had they hired a recognizable name to play him and built a first season story around his company and family, it could have been really interesting to see, much like Ned Stark in the first season of Game of Thrones (without the shocking ending of course)

Wasn't there a story line in one of the comics where it turns out that Wayne Sr or his father before him was also a masked vigilante?

Its a young show, it'll likely get better as time goes on.
I really want to like it but theres so many parts that bother me.
They should have left the Waynes alone for a while, and Jim Gordon isnt Bruce Wayne's babysitter.
Alfred isnt supposed to be an ass.
If that girl says her name is 'Cat' one more time I hope Bullock pistol-whips her.
That scene at the end; "I'll say you touched me."
The response should have been:
"You're a homeless orphan in Gotham City, you should know better than anyone that theres lots of dumpsters in this town..."

Agree with most of the posters here: the show is doing nothing for me.
A big problem is that it is so one note - In every single scene: Gordon is angry and self-righteous; Bullock is angry and corrupt; Fish Mooney is angry and cartoonishly over the top, Bruce Wayne is angry and damaged (do we really need to check in with him every episode to see him "testing himself"?), Selina Kyle is doing something cat-ish, etc.
Cobblepot is the only character that verges on interesting, and even he's one noted.
I was hoping the show would essentially be a rip-off of the movie Seven (Bratt Pitt and Morgan Freeman), with Gordon as a naive rookie and Bullock as a tired veteran, in a corrupt city (OK, that wasn't Seven), dealing with one or two truly dark psychopaths per season. Nothing to do with Bruce Wayne, and little to do with his foes; just Jim Gordon and Gotham. Instead we have, well, what I described above.
I'll give it another week or two, but not out of any enjoyment thus far.

Apparently Jeremy Jahns and Mike F should be the writers for this show, as their proposals on what direction the show should take sound much more interesting than what they're giving us now.

Balloonman, did I miss some sort of inside joke or something? Why not just use Calendar Girl if you want to do something that campy.
The oddly out of place lesbian kiss was the highlight of the episode, but that definitely shouldn't be the case.

I think I'm done with the show. The whole "people taking justice into their own hand" bit was too much. Just give the kid a cape and a Batmobile already and be done with it. And again, the obvious corruption is so over-the-top that it's gotten campy.
And yes agreed, lesbian kiss was a highlight. But even that seemed awkward, forced and just so completely out-of-place.
Going pre-Thomas Wayne killing would have been pretty awesome. You know who would make an awesome Thomas Wayne too? Gabriel Macht who plays Harvey Specter on Suits!

I was reading about Thomas Wayne after all this discussion about Bruce's parents. There is an alternate reality that the Flash unwittingly created where Bruce dies instead of Thomas and Martha. Thomas becomes a more vicious Batman who's willing to kill criminals who gets in his way in order to wreak vengeance for the death of his son. Martha becomes that reality's Joker after being unable to cope with Bruce's death and carves a grin into her face.

^ They made a movie about that (cartoon at least); Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox with Thomas Wayne as Bats. It's pretty decent actually.

You know what's the craziest thing about the show? It has a 91% rating on Rottontomatoes, and yet everyone I see hates it.
Maybe they only watched the premiere and assumed the show would be good, but that rating should be reversed.

I think this show is actually trying to be a weird hybrid between Nolan's Batman and the 60s Adam west bat man.
The lady who was kidnapping kids uniform, the balloon man. All the camp with the hardness and grit in the level of violence. It doesn't work.
It gets one more episode for me but it is quickly getting replaced by the flash.
