It's like buying a car without wheels.

Gee, I don't know. Maybe he's around here somewhere and you could ask him, instead of trying to guess.

Avalanche, Lightning and Wild are all fine names. I don't see an issue whatsoever with having the team called the Heat.

Old folks set in their ways? Probably the same people that think goalies should be 1 or 30-35, defence should be 2-7 and forwards should fill in the rest.

Actually, Wild is a lame name, but not because it lacks an S.

Some people have commented about the Flames losing the ability to make quick recalls from the AHL after this move, which made me curious about how often that even happens.

I went through the AHL transactions page for this season: Excluding the "paper" transactions on trade deadline day, the Flames made 30 recalls from Abbotsford this season.

Of those 30 recalls, only 5 of them saw the player play a game on the same day as the recall, and 4 of those were all in the same game, the evening of the trade deadline.

On October 26, Derek Smith was recalled and played that evening against Washington. He played 6:15 and was a -2 in the Flames 5-2 win.

On March 5, Knight and Reinhart were recalled in the morning, took part in practice and played that night. Hanowski and MacDonald were both recalled after the deadline to replace Stempniak and Berra in the line-up. All four players dressed, but MacDonald didn't play, in that evening's 4-1 win over Ottawa. Reinhart had an assist and Knight was 61% on faceoffs.

With all other recalls, there was at least a day between the recall and the player's first game. Although, it's nice to have the ability to make a quick recall, losing the ability won't severely change things.

^^ inability for quick recall part is when the Flames is playing in Calgary or any Western part. If they are on the Eastern swing, then it is not.

I think in the long run they are move positive things for the Flames organization here. Less travels for the Flames prospect so it means more practice time for them.

And players on ELCs can be sent to the ECHL, so the possibility exists that for quick recalls (e.g., on deadline day), they may send a few bodies on ELCs to Alaska or wherever to make travel easier.

It's what LA does with the Ontario Reign (their AHL team is in New Hampshire).

That Facebook page is a good sign. Hopefully if the rumours are true about Glens Falls we'll have a few new CPers to report on the team and it will be good for some Eastern fans like calgARI.

I agree that Adirondack Flames with the Atlanta logo sounds like a good idea, but I'd let the fans actually pick the name and give them some relationship with the team name.

If a terrible name like Adirondack Accordians is some kind of historically significant name and would generate goodwill with the market, I would use it. I know back in the Quad Cities days their fans preferred the Mallards name over the Flames. No point in ticking the market off for some wacky tie in to the Flames name if the market would prefer something else.

(That said - they've had the Red Wings and Phantoms as AHL teams and the FROSTBITE as a UHL team so it appears they don't really care)

I figured before we moved to Abbotsford that it was such a good fit being in Canada and close with the only big drawback being so close to Canuck land. Now I think they will be much better served playing in the east with less travel and more time to practice. Might get more fans out there to potentially.

They're warming to the idea of Adirondack Flames, as Adirondack Heat is a local youth baseball team.

Man... that would just be waaaaay too sweet if they called themselves the Adirondack Flames, and used the old Atlanta Flames logo. That would just be sick; would definitely force me to take a trip over there and see a game one day.

Would love to see the flamin' A on the front of the farm team sweater.
Why didn't Abbotsford use it?

I think it was because they were right smack dab in the middle of Canuck territory, so they didn't want to go full bore Flames colors and team name. Were hoping not to scare away the locals......didn't really matter in the end I guess.

I'm joining on the bandwagon to call them the Flames/Heat just to use the Atlanta Flames logo.

Kristen Odland @KristenOdlandCH
According to the mayor of Glens Falls, N.Y., the #Flames ownership is expected to decide by Wednesday on the relocation of the #AHL's Heat

Sounds like the Flames haven't made a firm commitment yet.

This is when Ken King earns his money. Burke is the hockey man. King is the business man. I like this structure so much better.
