Lol John Shannon was on the radio this morning saying he hasn't heard anything and not to expect a hire until after the draft then tweets he can confirm this hire.

Interesting tidbit - Brad is the son of Jim, who is the Boston Pizza CEO.

Memo to fans of Edmonton: We know his hiring will cause confusion and outrage.
To clarify, there is in fact no rule stating management positions must be filled by former players of your team.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 11m Really like Brad Treliving hire in Calgary. Inspired choice. Modern thinker. Good fit in my mind.

Not sure how you interpret it that way. Based on where they picked, those all look like solid choices.

How so? Max Domi, Connor Murphy, Brandon Gormley, Ekman-Larsson, Michael Bodker, and Kyle Turris. Those all look like pretty solid picks to me.
Henrik Samuelsson just put up pretty good numbers as an overager as well
Edit: I guess Turris wasn't under his tenure. He was hired a couple weeks after the '07 draft.

Yeah, no kidding. Our scouting staff won't have any input whatsoever, so we should be very worried.

I wonder if Burke and him born agreed yandle is scary on the defensive end and that sealed the hiring.

Or is it Treh-living? Or really quickly treleving! Tray-living? Treh-Leving?
I just dont know. I like the selection though. New guy eager to prove himself and likely around for the long-haul.

It is a rare moment indeed that a broad media consensus forms in favour of something the Flames do.

Was it John Shannon on the Fan an hour ago that said Burke will be the GM at the draft?

Obviously Shannon's sources with the Flames aren't good. Haha

Shows how much the SN "insiders" know.

Any word on when he starts? Before or after the draft?
My main worry going into the draft without a GM in place was that Burke may have made some significant changes. I would imagine Brad will have a voice on what happens from here forward.
Exciting times!
