If it was 2012, sure.

Arctic Monkeys are indeed that big now

Arctic Monkeys are huge right now in both mainstream and the more "independent" circles.

They last played the Corral if I'm not mistaken.

And Jack White, well Jack White is Jack White. It would be a cold day in hell when Foster the People headlined for Jack White.

Yeah, after I made that post I went and checked their more recent shows. They've played some monster sets at Austin City Limits and other major festivals.

Sucks for me though, as from listening to their music, it seems pretty mundane and boring for my tastes. I also found out they play my most hated song on X929. That really slow one they play every hour with the guitar going "do......do do DO DO, do do, dodo dodo". So bad lol.

I'll definitely be grabbing tickets because Stars, Jack White and Foster the People, though. Should be great.

EDIT: This song. ugh. Wow, 56 million views, too. Yeah, these guys are huge now.

Haha Do I Wanna Know is probably one of my favorite songs X plays. Most of the stuff they play is generic indie pop.

And if you think they're boring and mundane, you should check out their first album (Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not). Definitely not boring at all.

I'll definitely check it out, since I'll likely be watching their set. Thanks!

For what it's worth they are touting the same announcement for Edmonton's Sonic Boom as well. So any act(s) being slotted in would have to be open for two dates between Aug 29-31st.

Think that rules out NIN/Soundgarden adding 2 Alberta dates as they're booked up for the 29th/30th

So pulling a name out of thin air, I'm gonna guess the Foo Fighters. All their website says right now is "Fall 2014" referring to the new album.

Tuesday's a good day to drop a single & announce a massive North American tour.

Maybe I'm out of the loop on Beck's career, but they'd be considered a "jaw dropping" addition to Xfest?

Well it is xfest. Remember how hyped up they were for the first lineup? Had a huge buildup and went on about changing the face of the concert scene in calgary. Then announced social distortion, Janes addiction, weezer and house of pain.

Yeah true, I guess just because I saw that Mike Bell was retweeting, it might be someone actually big.

Also, to throw my guess out there, Outkast has been playing almost every summer festival, and they play a festival in Denver on Aug 22nd, then nothing until a festival in England on Sept 5th.

Wouldn't surprise me.

Lorde is also playing all these same summer festivals and appears to have the time open for SonicBoom and Xfest.

Could be slotting Rise Against into Calgary, and another band into Edmonton...

If it's the same band for both cities, my guesses are Outkast, Nas, Nas + Roots, Eminem, The Cure, Sublime with Rome, Dropkick Murphys or Wu-Tang.

Corb Lund tweeted this morning that there is going to be an announcement about his old band The Smalls Tuesday on X92.9. That tweet seems to be gone now so I'm guessing they're the mystery band. They're not huge by any means but a reunion would be really cool.

Seeing the Smalls get back together would be amazing in its own right.

The Smalls? No offense to them but that better not be the jaw dropping announcement.

I am keeping my hopes low though. You know why? Because ticket prices already set, so I doubt they'd be able to add a true headliner like Outkast or any other big artist we've guessed at.

My guess is at the high price they're charging, ticket sales are slower than expected, so they're trying to add a little shot in the arm and hopefully get renewed interest from those that liked the line-up but couldn't justify the price.

The Smalls is a bigger announcement for me than anyone you guys are guessing at. I would probably buy tickets if they get back together.
