Because Poirier turns 20 before the end of the year this upcoming season will count as his 20 year old season. Therefore yes, he would be considered an overager if sent back to junior (like Culkin this year) and therefore he is AHL eligible because it's his 20 year old season.
Yeah, the CHL counts years from January the 1st while the NHL counts years for the purpose of drafting, from September the 15th. Baertschi also was affected by this rule.
I can't wait for a time out on the Flames bench in a few years
Gelinas: [as the whistle blows] Call it, Bob! Hartley: Alright, listen up. until we get the winning goal, our priority's Flames hockey. Monahan, I want you finding the open spaces, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Gio, you got the Blue line. Anything gets more than three strides out, you turn it back or you turn it to paste.
Hartley: Poirier, you gotta try and get under their skin. Be a complete jerk. You got the lightning. Light the #######s up.
[Poirier laughs and skates off and Hartley turns to Johnny Gaudreau]
You skate around really fast and set up opportunities. And Kanzig?
[Kanzig turns and glares at Hartley] Hartley: Smash!
[Kanzig grins and leaps away]

I'm not usually one to toot my own horn, but boy you served this one up to me on a plate. Give or take a few replacement faces.

@brandon_astle: The kids will play tonight. Emile Poirier will make his professional debut and skate on a line with Reinhart & Street. Klimchuk back in too.

That's just Reinhart being his usual self. He has been a heck of a player for the Heat (and now why he is nicknamed Max Power) and had a handful of multi point nights. Currently has 61 on the season, tied for the franchise single season point record and will hopefully break it tonight!
He plays well and sets up pretty much anyone he plays with.

I like Max too. From what I've seen, he's one of the best players on the Heat, drives a lot of the play. He's had a great 2nd pro year and I hope he gets a good shot to make the Flames next season.
I will be at the game tonight. I will give my thoughts when I am back. Also, how does a team get scheduled on back to back to back games?
Hopefully the Heat get out of the first round as their 2nd round opponent will most likely be the Texas Stars and I will be able to watch those games as well. (Nevermind just read that the 2nd round is reseeded still it's a possibility if there are no 1st round upsets)

Awesome! There is a game thread in the Back Burner Forum and we'd love a recap.
As for the 3 in 3, all teams get scheduled this, usually once a month. It's not really all that new or "weird" in the AHL. I think the Heat play more then any other team due to travel, but all teams are scheduled for several 3 in 3's during the season.
