GMGM has an awful reputation with player agents. We can't have a rebuilding team with a GM that people do not want to work with. I hope Vancouver picks him up and not us.

I can see McPhee making Burke's short list.

Would like to see McPhee here. He's proven to be a very good drafter, and built himself a nice core in Washington post-lockout that up until Oates took over was a Cup contender. His downfall is similar to Darryl's here with moves becoming increasingly short-sighted as the pressure mounts but if he has a safeguard like Burke behind him then I would think that's less likely to happen.

If this whole era of hope about finally getting a new beginning for the Flames ended up with the Flames getting George McPhee as our GM, it would be a massive massive disappointment.

Point is though...in the history of the NHL, he is no where close to one of the worst GM's in the game, which is what that article/list claims.
|
What has he done without Gretzky and Messier? He's had a top 3 spending team for 14 years and has done nothing but waste the money for the owners.
His best draft pick ever in NY was a 4th rounder and he traded him for a 38 year old. Sather should have been fired long ago. He flat out sucks.

A guy dating my cousin writes for Bleacher Report. He doesn't have any writing or sports credentials at all, but he's just a fan of a team.
T@T might as well have linked us to his personal blog, but it doesn't surprise me that someone who relies on Bleacher Report for evidence would compare Feaster to McPhee. Really solid.
If we got McPhee, I'd feel pretty comfortable with he and Burke in tandem. He would excel in the slightly re-oriented GM role that the Flames are offering. He's done some exceptional things in Washington, not enough playoff success, but he certainly made them relevant and competitive for a long time.

I think this new management system is perfect for a sort of mentorship program.
I'd be comfortable with Burke as President of Hockey Ops, McPhee as GM and mentoring two AGMS like Futa and Conroy.

I did read somewhere that Burke wants a GM with good drafting analysis. McPhee certainly would qualify on that front. That said I hope Burke goes with someone else.

Lol. While McPhee is not the guy I want as flames GM, he is head over heals better than Feaster. I don't get you? Your posts make it seem that you think Feaster is better than Burke and McPhee? Feaster is down in the gutter with the likes of Gillis and Tambelinni and nowhere near as good as a Burke or McPhee.

if drafting is a priority, not sure why weisbrod was let go? I thought the flames drafting under feaster was just fine.
Unless they feel trading down and taking a shot on Jankowski, heck maybe even getting a guy like baertchi (makes no sense to consider it a bad pick at the time or even at this stage in his development) were such bad moves that it negates all the other strong picks.

No but Feaster attempted to trade Monahan and Kanzig to the Avs so one of the Jackets/Islanders/Panthers could get Ryan O'Rielly for free

I'm not sure why Weisbrod was let go? I'm with you that I liked his way of drafting.
The only reasons I can think of of why he was let go are just rumours, but if true I could see why. Rumour one was that he was in charge of the return they got for JBO and Iggy. Other rumour ( actually came out of his mouth) that if Janko was not available when they traded down that he would have selected Seiloff with the 18th pick. I think he was trying to boost seiloff stock, but you never know.

He was let go because he had a different philosophy on team building than Burke. Fairly simple.

Sather and McPhee as two of the worst GMs in history is laughable. The Caps have been a playoff team for five of the past six years and considered a cup contender for a bunch of those.
Laughable that the idea that a GM who can't get his team over the hump is worse than the many GMs who can't get their team anywhere near the hump.

I'm pretty sure the Capitals will just name Ovechkin GM/Coach/Captain.
