I understand the penalty, it's pretty hard to see a guy get stretchered off and not lay down any discipline. Game misconduct was pushing it, but understandable as well.
Wasn't a 'clean' hit, but it's not suspension worthy.
Just an unfortunate accident. As much as I rag on the Sedins you don't want to see any player down like that, and glad to hear he's released from hospital and doing fine.
IMO the McGrattan - Alberts one was worse.

Her tweet wasn't vert classy, and while he was still lying on the ice. I have no sympathy for her at all.
Then you are a goof. Call her out on what she said, but many, and I mean, many of the replies to her were way over the line. Things no person should ever say to another human being.
Examples of things said to Kristen (ad libbed):
"Flames player hits Sedin from behind, probably what you (Kristen) had to take from the Flames players to get your job"
"I hope I meet you on the street, so I can hit you from behind"
Sedin had three options. Play the puck around the board to his D, take a hit to protect the puck or try to draw a penalty by exposing his numbers to Byron at last second. Unfortunately for him it was as a bad choice to bait Byron . More and more players are taking this chance by turning their back to an on coming bus. While some get away with it and draw a major, some get themselves seriously hurt.

Calling someone soft while their lying on the ice motionless is a classless move pure and simple. To do it on a pubic forum like twitter is just asking for those kind of replies from the Vancouver fans.
Also, resorting to name calling is a great way to drive your point home about those classless Vancouver fans

You can't be serious, she tweeted it as he went down, then right after she realized that it may have been a serious injury, not just another typical Canuck diving scenario, she apologized immediately.
If you think she deserved the filth that Vancouver fans said to her, then you are a terrible person, and I hope you never procreate.
I don't think he should get any games at all. The hit didn't look malicious and Byron isn't a dirty player, but hey that's just my opinion. What are your thoughts?
Here's the videos of illegal and legal hits from the DPS:
The two that are probably closest to this situation are the final hit on the illegal video (also on D. Sedin) and the first hit on the legal. I'd say the first "legal" hit in the video was worse than the Byron hit.
If Sedin doesn't go down, I doubt anyone would even remember it tomorrow. I've seen Byron throw many bigger hits this season that didn't get penalized.
When Byron commits to the hit (about 0:04 in the video), he's looking at Sedin's right shoulder. When he makes the hit (about 0:05 in the video), he makes contact with Sedin's left shoulder. He could have initiated contact a lot sooner, and in a much more dangerous position, than he did. He waited until Sedin was against the boards before starting the hit, and it looks to me like he minimized the force of the hit.
I'm not sure what else Byron could have done to make the hit "cleaner".

Vancouver arena has those lights on the stantions in the glass. He hit his head on one of those...curious if those are any different than the normal ones to cause the injury.
If Sedin didn't go down/get injured, I don't know that I would have expected a penalty to even be called.
That being said, I think that based on the injury there had to be some sort of supplemental discipline, based on previous nhl decisions.
This is my view, too. The penalty was called because of the injury, not the hit; I agree that the Canuck pile on after the injury should have earned them some minutes in the box too.
Byron did not play smart, but neither did Sedin. What should has been a nothing play got ugly real fast. 5 and a game is enough. Dumbass move by Sedin to try and double back, especially adter checking over his shoulder and spotting Byron.

Sedin put himself in a vulnerable position, even after he saw Byron coming. Byron also was committed to the hit and did reduce his speed to make the hit better than it could have been. However, Byron is a lesser known guy who hit a star player, so the wheel of justice will spin and land anywhere from 2-5 games
1 - isn't known for being dirty
2 - things happen fast in the spur of the moment
3 - Sedin turned while retrieving the puck
However:
4 - Byron could have let up more knowing Sedin was vulnerable
5 - The biggest knock is that it was on a star player (whom was injured at the moment) by a non star player
