Do they know you're a Flames fan and post on this board? Just curious... if not, that's awesome!

I think bringing in a 'Celebrity' President is the sign that Gillis and Torts are going to get at least one more shot.

Torts was brought in to bring a team with a closing window over the top. At this hes failed miserably but the Organization is far too substantially invested in Gillis and Torts to let them go after only 1 year with $16M owing remaining.

Linden is going to smile into cameras and spew cliches while this team desperately attempts to claw their way back into the playoffs next season.

How is it irrelevant?

Yzerman had never been VP of anything before getting the VP gig in Detroit.

Linden is rumoured to be getting the President of Hockey Ops in Vancouver.

Seems nearly identical to me. Slightly better title, but similar responsibilities.

Which, my version or the likely implosion of panic and bloodbath? The latter I'd think will be coming soon to a theatre near you, which is hilarious because even if you did want to dump Tortorella and / or Gillis it only makes sense to wait until the offseason.

Can someone link to Gilles' comments on 1040 last week? I must have missed it.

I hope they keep Gillis just to prevent a bidding war from starting over the GM candidates expected to be in demand this summer.

If they hold up the GM search in the same way that Kesler held up the trade market, I'll be pissed. Not only that, Burke will be pissed.

No kidding. Status quo with both Gillis and Torts retained would be a dream come true for Flames fans. I'm hoping that Gillis keeps his job but I just can't see it if the owner objectively looks at what he's done with the roster he inherited and how he failed to supplement it or make it better. The way he botched the goaltending situation will linger and stick with him for years and likely prevent him from getting another management job but never say never as long as the Oilers and Islanders are still being run by clueless ownership.

He basically said Nucks have deviated from puck possession style they were designed to play.

Next year they will return to that. Anyone that does not like it can leave.

Referenced the doubts people had over Vigneault being able to change form the defensive style he was known for 7 years ago, and that he changed. Suggested that Tort's can change too, although the warning was clear if he doesn't.

To his credit, Torts went on TV a couple days later and said Gillis was right. Dump and chase style was necessitated by injuries, when players came back he held onto that approach too long.

Most know I am a Flames fan. Have no idea if they know about CP, doubt it. I have actually worn Flames gear in there when I don't realize what shirt I have on or forget to switch to my Eagles hat. Plus my car seats have two big Flaming C's on them. One of the long time workers is a huge Bruins fan, from New Brunswick. I keep it professional especially around players, coaches and the big wigs.

We get the social media memo every few weeks it seems especially around trade deadline and free agency. I would never release anything anyways, I'll comment on rumors but that's about it. I knew Torts was the coach at like 6am when we were setting up for the dog and pony show, still calling him Mr. X. Lots of rumors swirling that day on social media.

Just wrong.

It's highly irrelevant because Yzerman's position was not a senior position, and it was taylor made for on-the-job managerial training. If Linden is appointed president, then unlike Yzerman, he will be assuming a SENIOR managerial post with no previous hockey ops experience. Yzerman had years working in and around the Detroit system before getting a similar position.

President and Vice President are two very different roles, one is a support role, the other is the head role.

Unless things changed after I posted it, the job was for President (i.e. what Ken King is/was prior to Burke's signing, not President of Hockey Ops).

If they change it to make it less of a responsibility then sure, but as it stands, no, "President" and "Vice President" are not actually the same thing.

from wiki:
On July 3, 2006, Yzerman officially retired, finishing his career ranked as the sixth all-time leading scorer in NHL history, having scored a career-high 155 points (65 goals/90 assists) in 1988–89 which has been bettered only by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux. Yzerman's #19 jersey was officially retired on January 2, 2007 during a pre-game ceremony at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. On November 4, 2008, he was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. He also became an honoured member of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009, his first year of eligibility, inducted alongside 2001–02 Red Wing teammates Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille.[4]

On September 25, 2006, Yzerman was named as a Vice President of the Detroit Red Wings. He won a fourth Stanley Cup as the Vice President of Operations in 2007–08. He served as the team's Alternate Governor until he was hired away from the Red Wings to become the general manager for the Tampa Bay Lightning in May 2010.[5]

Yzerman retired in 2006 and got the veep title right away. Also, it sounds like you have the job sdescription for this rumored role in YVR. Share it. Because all i see is an empty title right now.

There are Presidents and then there are presidents. Linden will be the latter if he gets that title.

It's like VPs, SVPs and EVPs in most organizations. I've seen VPs that have one employee. LOL.

No point getting too hung up on the president part of the title IMO. No one is going to expect Linden to run a half billion dollar operation.
