I have never complained about lack of gravel and salt. The amount is obscene, I highly question why so much is used. Take a look on Crowchild trail near 16th avenue, the salt is destroying the concrete barriers especially the foundation.

A few years ago it was cold and snowing constantly for a few days straight, but only small amounts adding up to about 1 cm per day. It was enough to polish the streets to an icy shine and make intersections near impossible to pass. We were all complaining bitterly because the City wasn't doing enough to make sure the roads, and welcomed the overdose of gravel they threw down in response.

Now...we're crying out because they did what we wanted those few years ago, and aggressively sanded the road in anticipation of these snowfalls? I guess we have short term memories.

I dont know about the rest of you but I'm loving the salt. We need more of it. Every car with a trailer hitch should be hauling a hopper full of salt and courteously salting the road behind them for their fellow motorists.

I may or may not have invested heavily in salt futures. Use more salt!!

I grew up on a suburban cul-de-sac, and we swept our street of all the gravel & dirt that was dripped off our street's vehicles.

Us kids did it, because didn't want to catch a rock in the eye playing street hockey.

LOL, I know that street, I am right at the end of that cul-de-sac. That snowpile by the for sale sign on the street, I am betting it will still be there when I get home

If only Nemshi understood that they need to do MORE with LESS! Look, I explained it right there, why can't they just implement this genius plan? Gravel! Taxes! Cut the fat!

You forgot to call him Spendshi. It'll really round the whole thing out.

Here’s a win-win idea for the city. Don’t gravel it and you won’t have to come and do a half ass street sweeping job either. But alas that takes common sense…. Not so common at city hall these days.
Lol. Don't gravel it. So that the other 9 residents in the culdesac call the city and complain that the main drag got graveled, but not the culdesac? More like lose/lose. Impossible to please everyone.

For the record, I'm a happy camper. My street got swept today.

I don't get it. The reader would have otherwise assumed you broke puckluck's collarbone when you fell off your bike? Just because you got really mad about it or something?

Wouldn't want to go over budget on the snow removal would we. I can't believe people could defend the city cutting back on cleaning the streets when this is how they choose to spend the money otherwise.

I get that some of you Nenshi lovers take offense to any shots fired at city hall because you feel it's a shot at your beloved mayor but I honestly don't care about Nenshi. It's a problem with the Transportation Department and how they are using the funds and the mess they are making. They claim they go over budget yet pictures like this are common place as is sanding when there's less than a mm of snow. Wanting some accountability and responsibility by the usage of taxpayer money should never be met with appologies from fans of the mayor.

It has nothing to do with Nenshi-the-beloved, just that your sort just enjoy complaining about minute occurrences and do whatever you can to fit them into whatever agenda you have.

I mean really, these pictures are "commonplace"?

Cool, go ahead and show me just two more.

City of well over a million people, a transportation department that is out of control, pictures of a tiny bit of snow being cleared are "commonplace," so, surely, there IS more than just 1 or 2, right?

EDIT: To be clear, I don't even care about the pictures, but painting anyone who disagrees with you as a "Nenshi fan" or apologist is just silly, and it's not lost on anyone how hard you're exaggerating to make a point.

Do we even know that was the City's machine? It's possible that someone hired a private company or maybe just a bored operator cleaning his own street.

I know when there was that big snowfall a couple friends who own a bunch of machines cleared their own streets.

I'm not too worried about it either as a big rain fall or two and most will wash down the storm drain. I also will be out there sweeping in front of my house but alas, most of the people on the street wont.

They could be running the plow just to clear the curb area to help solve this frozen catch basin issue? (Wtf is that a drain?)

I think the key here is that the picture could be showing countless different things, but when you've got an anti-city hall agenda, it's instantly: "A joke! A waste of my tax dollars" grumble grumble grumble!"

I was with you guys until this. That's just an insult to my intelligence if you expect me to believe that someone would either (a) have his own business and decide to plow a dry road or (b) that someone would hire a private company to do that knowing it was already dry.

You've seen the picture right? It's just some guy clearing out the packed down ice from the curb, nobody is plowing a dry street.
