And just like many of us predicted at the time, it raised the bar for everyone else who came after it. There's no way you get something like Telus Sky here if the Bow didn't raise the bar. You'd just get more crap from Gibbs Gage with crappy cladding.

EAP, Jameson and Centennial. The three buildings I hate most in Calgary.
The Bow is awesome, and obviously way better than any other building here. I just prefered the look of the old skyline.
A similar comparison would be Oklahoma City, which looks ridiculous now.

Centennial's problem is that it's next to the vastly superior Canterra.
Eau Claire Tower, now that's a box that belongs in Quarry Park.

Hey, I like the flatter, telephoto perspectives. The heights are more representative and you get more of the depth.

I think next to the Bow, EAP is the second best building(s) in this city (that is until Telus Sky gets built).

I still have a soft spot for Centrium Place. If that was the standard for our "filler" we'd have a pretty amazing city.
By far the best work Gibbs Gage has ever done
As a side note, ever since Centennial Place, I can never remember the freaking name at first.

Yeah, I've always liked that one myself. I remember my bus stop used to be right there, so I had a good view of it going up.
I think EAP is pretty dull. It looks decent from the south side when it's all skinny, but the west/east sides look pretty bland. The curtainwall just feels kind of 80s corporate to me. I never bought that whole "its supposed to be the rocky mountains!" line either.

I believe reason Eau Claire Tower looks so "conventional", is that inside it will be probably one of the nicest and most functional buildings in Calgary. the lead tenant MEG has made this a priority in their new building.
I have talked to people in corporate real estate and honestly Bow style buildings are awful functionally, as the footprint is hard to fit people into, configure, and maintain efficiently. Plus folks I know in the Bow say the interior is nothing to write home about.
I know that isn't the point of this thread, but a lot of these vanity projects are not great ideas overall from what I have been told. Look at how much office space Cenovus is leasing after they built the Bow. Was the point to centralize their staff or build something cool for 2/3 of the company, and investors to look at?
I guess for me, I am glad companies are building these types of towers, but I am glad I work for one that isn't, and spends it on making my full day better tangibly.

It would be better if it were conventional! If it were conventional, it would be taller with a smaller floorplate.

Hahaha, Oklahoma City? That's not even close to a similar comparison. That tower in OK city is absolutely ridiculous compared to the other buildings. You can't seriously compare that to how the Bow looks in Calgary. lol, c'mon man!

MEG's current space is much, much nicer then EnCana's. Haven't been in the Cenovus part but I would imagine it's the same. The security, the multiple elevator rides, weird floor plates… the Bow is a real PITA to get around in.

Ha, I disagree with absolutely every single thing you say here.
If only we could build more Bow Valley squares hey?

The Chive today has an album of the tallest building in the world. Thought it'd be of interest here:

Supplies! Even the tallest building in the city sprawls too much for Mr. C.

You're not wrong, but that particular quote was about a different building.
