Have to agree with the votes for Granlund; I had forgotten about him. I guess I might be a bit unclear on what constitutes a good prospect. Is it potential, hype, or what they have achieved at what level. As high as I am on Gaudreau and as much as I see the potential to be better than Baertschi, he hasn't done anything at a very high level yet.
Plus it's great to see how deep the pool of young talent has become for the flames. Brodie, Baertschi, gaudreau, Monahan, granlund, poirier, klimchuk, Wotherspoon, sieloff, Byron, colborne, knight, Reinhart, etc.
People may say the flames lack top end talent in their system (although I think baertschi, gaudreau, and Monahan will prove them wrong)... But I think the flames hae plenty of guys that could be legit NHLers and are going to create competition for roster spots for years to come. Plus having depth scoring talent like this is very valuable when the flames become a playoff team in a few years... Nice to have guys that can jump into different parts of the line up and has the talent/work ethic to contribute.

Granlund has been stellar this year too. That guy will put up tons of points in the coming years.
He's shown more than Baertschi has at the AHL level and has shown that he can put up points in the NHL. He's still pretty underrated here among people who don't follow abby IMO.
Oh great, i hope Granlund is not the second coming of Baertschi. People got so excited when he played a few games in his emergency called-up and people were even saying he is a candidate for the Rookie of the Year. Then the kid struggled and people wanted to get rid of him and trade him for anything. I sure Granlund does not struggle next season because I just hate to see post about Flames should get rid of him.
Some players takes time to develop into an NHL everyday player and some can just fit right in. Nyquist from Detroit played a few seasons in the AHL and the guy was scoring in the AHL but Detroit did not play him in the NHL until last season, then as an everyday player this season. So far the guy was doing pretty well scoring some big goals. Maybe Baertschi really need some time in the AHL then maybe next season or late next season or even the season after that he'll be ready and start helping the Flames. This season I am good with the Flames letting him finish the season in Abby. Maybe last night's game is the start that he is getting comfortable playing in professional league. I am looking forward in seeing the young guys like Sven, Granlund, Agostino, Poirer, Klimchuk, Gaudreau and others started playing full-time hockey in Calgary. Maybe it will happen in the next two seasons or longer but i can wait.

Baertschi from what I've seen has huge upside but I'm wondering if there is room for both him and Gaudreau on the Flames?
I think so... The flames need two left wingers for the top six and if the flames really want to be a contender one day they need to have two lines that are essentially #1A and #1B lines rather than just a number one line and then a second line. The best teams in the league have two top lines that share the load pretty equally... Boston, St. Louis, LA, San Jose, etc.
Crazy how our once best prospect is now almost an afterthought. He's got a long way to go before he gets a regular NHL shift, maybe he's finally growing out of whatever bad habits Hartley saw in him
Hockeys Future still has Sven listed as our top prospect... that is ahead of Monahan even.

I like Baertschi, my opinion of him hasn't gone down too much this year, but Granlund has flat out impressed me. That shot of his will score plenty of goals in the nhl. He won't score thirty next year but I don't think a thirty goal season or two is out of the question for him.
I was high on him before he even came to Abbotsford. Just look at that shot he's got. How many times have you seen Cammy score goals that look just like these?
I always knew Sven could score. Is he playing 3 zones? Is he bulking up/eating better? What will he do (training-wise) this summer?
Those are the questions I want answered.
That said, I'm glad he's not sulking(anymore) in Abby, and I hope he is taking things seriously. He's an important player for the flames going forward.
Looks like Sven is starting to get it. Have to be able to play a 200 ft game to make the Flames. I have to say, I love those sort of expectations from our young guys. I think this organization is on the right track. I have faith that Sven will be a key player for this franchise.
As for Granlund, that dude is a player and it would be a shame if he's not given a chance, but he may not be due to the relative plethora of undersized forwards that are in the Flames system.
Really stocked with small forwards right now which means that some of them are going to be gone soon. Too bad, and for sure we're going lose a guy or two where we'll look back and lament letting them leave.
Don't really care much of Sven's offensive production, I just want his defensive game to be above average when he comes to camp next seaswon.
Could not disagree more.
Sven's offense is absolutely needed. He has way above average offensive skill set.
What he can't be is a defensive liability. What he can't do is play in one zone. He has to work as hard as everyone on this team works.

That's awesome news. I really want Baertschi to make the Flames next year and stay for the entire season. He has so much offensive potential and can be an important part of the rebuild.

All I can tell you is he was +7 this weekend.

I think this is a huge summer for Sven. He will be 22 next year and I would not be surprised at all to see him breakout and out up 50pts for the Flames
Have the flames used all four of their call ups? I wonder if Sven gets one more shot this season. The last Vancouver game would be ideal since he is there anyways.
