You're entitled to your opinion just like he is. People who take their free time to come on here and talk about what's best for the Flames are just as big of a Flames fan as you are.
I think most people who feel like a better draft pick would benefit the team more in the long run have been pretty silent down the stretch this year because last season most posts to that extent were attacked extensively and it seemed to be OK on the board.
I think it's totally legit to debate if losing now actually makes the Flames better in the long run, but the whole "real fan" nonsense is lame.

Maybe I'm less of a fan for wanting the Flames to win every time they play. If it prevents them from hypothetically winning the cup five years from now, its really not that big a deal with me. The euphoria after the 89 cup win was fantastic, but fleeting. Championships are great, but I just enjoy the experience of watching hockey on a game by game basis.

Was pretty much saying the exact opposite; nobody is less of a flames fan depending on how they watch the games or the strategy they want to see the team apply - yourself included.
For me, subjectively regular season wins are great but I am a cup whore . Watching the drama of a long playoff run - I've only experienced two, but for me best times of my life as a hockey fan. Being a little kid in 89 is the reason I'll never be able to cheer for any other team like I do the Flames. Pretty magic when a team comes together like that. And building a good team like they did in the late 80s early 90s, it was just better in every way, the regular seasons were even sweeter. I remember them beating the Canucks to clinch the presidents trophy one year and how great that was.
I always hope the Flames shoot for the top and I even enjoy it when the team is young and losing but learning and trying to build a proper foundation. It feels like they might go somewhere even if it takes a while. The last few Iggy years where there was really no hope - just kind of felt like a long slow death march.

Just started watching the game now and it's 2 - 0 15:00 in the 2nd. What the hell is this Flames team doing being so accountable and good with this line up? Is it just flashes of the dark years where a Flames team far eliminated from the playoffs decides that they can actually win games?
Is it something special down there?
I honestly see 600 goals and 1300 points out of many of these players...

I don't disagree with anything you're saying. With me, I was well into adulthood when the Flames won the cup. Maybe its part of the aging process that the cup runs have lost a bit of their intrigue, although I was still on the edge of my seat back in 04. But I'm conditioned to celebrate all victories, I just can't get pissed at this edition of the Flames for winning meaningless games. They really try every night, the essence of winners in my book. At the same time, I don't mind when they lose, except to the Leafs, Oilers or Canucks.

Nailed it, except I was five years old in 1989.
Also, I can't decide what I like more from the post-game videos. The lack of any comment by Hartley or Ramo trying so hard to keep a (well effing deserved) s***-eating grin off his face.

Even if we win tomorrow too, we'll only be up on the Isles by a point and they'll have 2 games in hand on us, so it's very likely they'll just pass us again (I think they play the Caps and Jackets) by the time they catch up in games played.
So let's not be afraid of the boys pulling out another W tomorrow. I mean.. It's the panthers, they're almost as bad as the Oil this season.

Reeeaaaalllly late to the party, but I finished watching the game on PVR and I just have to say we had no business winning that game. Tampa really dominated us most of the night and even our top lines had trouble creating much offense, but when they did, wow, what an opportunistic bunch, especially Glencross. Those are the kind of games that lead to a team being elite down the road. When you don't have your best game and are being dominated on the road, can you still find a way to clamp down in your zone, create a couple scoring chances, and capitalize on them? The best teams find ways to win even when they suck that evening. All we need to do is keep adding talent to the system that earns their way into the lineup. Keep people fighting for jobs and the lineup will sort itself out.
Tampa Bay should be ashamed to have lost to that lineup.
Hartley for the Jack Adams.
Go Islanders!
