I never thought Westgarth was in the plans for next year in any event, however the guy who I think should be most concerned is Ferland.

Why would anyone be concerned?
I can't imagine that it would be a bad thing if it turned out that we had two big, bruising wingers that could score as well as hit.
I'll take one of those on every line, please.

Probably from his Junior A days. For accurate size stats on a player, the last place I look is the Flames site.

From the sounds of it BVB is a bottom 6 player. Ferland has more potential than that, I see him as a top 6 guy.
Also BVB spends next year in the AHL imo, Westgarth will be re-signed. He's improving and would be ok with BVB-C-Westgarth 4th line in couple years when Big Ern has to retire.

Ferland will probably need a year of AHL because his development curve has been detailed by many things.

Not only can he skate, he skates well. I remember he looked pretty good at camp for the most part. I was hoping they would sign him then, as did a number of others. I am betting most fans end up liking his game quite a lot.

Well someone has to be concerned. You just added 2 players to the roster.

Scary-good and just plain scary. I think we are going to see a bigger, tougher team on the farm. Still looks like one that will skate and score. I am excited about the Heat next year.

My prediction is that this player actually doesn't see any ice time. He'll wear a monocle and scoff at the opposition from the bench.
Presumably Butler will play all of his shifts for him.

Extremely low-risk signing for the team. You burn a year off now, so basically you get him next season to see exactly how he adapts to pro, and then he's (I believe) an RFA.

Nice signing for sure. It's usually a good sign when there's competition for a player.
Very eager to see how he turns out. If he turns out as advertised he could be an important piece moving forward. We'll see!

I would assume he'd be a UFA because he signed as a UFA. I'm sure someone on here can clarify it, cause I'd like to know.

Undrafted players are UFAs until they sign their first contract, then they're subject to the ELC/RFA rules like any other player.
He will be an RFA at the expiration of this contract, and won't qualify for regular UFA status until July 1, 2019 (as long as all future qualifying offers are presented and all other RFA conditions are met).

Van Brabant will wear #48 for the Flames.
Hartley confirms that Van Brabant will make his NHL debut against Toronto on April 1st.
Van Brabant will be the first player from Quinnipac to play in the NHL.
