You're right, but different players do it as a reaction, not necessarily to rub it in. Gomez has a reputation as an idiot, and so he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. The pitcher was just trash, but in this I quite enjoyed Gomez get it handed to him.

The pitcher started it because Gomez is a moron and does this crap all the time. One time Gomez rounded the entire bases thinking he had hit a home run only to get to home plate and realize he had hit the ball foul.

Albert Pujols just joined the 500 home run club.

What's the story on him?

Pretty much the only power hitter from that era I trust is Ken Griffey Jr. His pace always slowed as the year went on, and he broke down as he got older ... like a normal human being.

Not to mention Griffey Jr. got his power from ridiculously good swing mechanics. No need for more muscle when you've got that sweet sweet swing.

Coors Field is a joke. 9 home runs in the game today.

Michael Pineda is a joke. Tossed for having pine tar on his neck. April 10 he almost certainly had some on his hand as well. He'll get 10 games for this. Good.

I'd give him an extra five simply for being to stupid to even try hiding it.

That's what makes it so confusing to me, he didn't even remotely try to cover it up... Is he truly that stupid?

Starting pitchers should be suspended from starts, not games played by the team.

According to many current and former players, it is common for pitchers to use pine tar or some other substance in cold weather to help them grip the ball, despite the prohibition. Most claim it does not alter the flight of the ball. Some use a substance called Firm Grip or Bull Frog sunscreen. The consensus is that most pitchers use a foreign substance in cold weather.
On April 10, the brownish substance on the heel of Pineda’s right hand was captured on television. After the game the Red Sox indicated that Pineda should either give up the practice, or be subtle about it.
|
So it's an illegal practice, but it's assumed most pitchers use some sort of substance in cold weather? And the Red Sox are more annoyed that this guy wasn't subtle about the pine tar use rather than the actual use itself?

That's because there are guys on the Red Sox staff that do the same thing {Buchholz}.

That can't work.
The team would just announce him as the starting pitcher every day of the suspension and then replace him with someone else. A starter going every 5 days is a team decision, not a league rule.
Sadly the only way to make it fair is just make the suspension 5 times longer than it would be for a position player, but that would never happen.

Tigers bullpen is horrible, I have zero faith once the starters are done.

Giants have just reeled off 10 wins in 11 games.
The bullpen has been outstanding. Morse has been a great addition.
