Conspiracy theory.....f that officiating. Well, at least Canucks seem not able to catch a wild card spot. Backlund should learn from this.

I was surprised not to see Westgrath and McG coming out for more forecheck I guess they need to ice the best lines for the tying goal.

Also to the "expert" explaining the game to his buddy, a penalty kill is not called a "reverse powerplay" and Shane Doan is not one of the top 10 players in the league.

Let his aggressive edge spill over where before a face off, he had shoved Halpern, called for cross checking.
Shortly after Backlund got out of the box, went after Halpern again by redirecting him into into the Flames bench which was completely fine until Backlund gave a parting punch to Halpern's face before separating. Called for roughing.

He was being truculent.

He seemed to take a few things personally. I wasn't upset with him though as it's good to see him try to be the man, although it's a little easier when you have Westgarth and McGrattan nearby. One thing I've noticed is that there is no backing down with this team anymore and I think the addition of Westgarth is underrated.

Any other game and Backlund wouldn't have gotten a penalty for any of those players.

Third game in 4 nights with pretty extensive travel, in the middle of March, with the season long over. Fought hard through the 2nd and deserved more than to be tied. Came out in the 3rd and were subjected to some pretty one-sided reffing. But they never, ever quit.

Pretty fricking awesome.

After Ortio's gaffe, I watched him pretty closely to see how he handled it and he really played well from that point on. Just curious, did Hrudey falate him for the rest of the night about how impressively he bounced back, or was the commentary a bit Lacking on that front?

We might have been in the same section - the guy behind me also called it a reverse power-play when describing it to the first timers he was with.

I like what Backlund did, he is making a statement, although he went a little psycho, good on him.
He is no longer intimidated and he will not back down, he is the man now.
His confidence has grown, he is a leader and integral part of the team's future.
And people were giving up on him, hehe.

Just another great game from Byron. Thought Smid played well, and Gio as per usual.

Really thought Brodie was impressive. So did the Yotes fans behind me - they commented on ' that #7 guy' several times.

Hey BigBrodieFan: did TJ have family at the game last night? In the section beside me, there was a group of about 8 people and I think at least 6 of them had Brodie jerseys on.

Little guys like Byron that play big are infectious.
Everyone starts looking in the mirror and realizing if a shrimp can do it, so can I.

Also, Colborne with another solid game last night. He has been a completely different player over the last 8 or 10 games than the guy that came over from the Leafs.

A 4th round pick was easily worth the risk at the time, and now it is starting to look like it may pay some pretty nice dividends.

Actually yes, possibly. It's known as public accountability.

I have been impressed with the team all year long, effort, heart, back checking.

Hartley's system is fun, much different than Sutter's.
I love the breakouts out of the d-zone and little extra moves by d-men to gain time and space.
So, much better than just chip it out of the zone along the wall just to see the puck come back 2 seconds later.
Activation of the defense in attacking zone is great too. We wasted years under the BS system.

It's great to see McGratten getting big minutes and creating out there too.

Loved how after the 2nd goal Ortio just tipped up his mask and had a drink
no sign of frustration out of him , very Kipperesque .

Laughable display by the officials. Watching the third felt like the NHL still owned the Yotes with how one-sided it was. Brutal and the officials should be reprimanded for that display.

Well its important that the Yotes get all $300.00 of playoff revenue from their 7 fans.

Hi guys, first post at CalgaryPuck!

Some thoughts from the game:

- Backlund is really coming together as a player; he is finding his offensive game more and more.
- Other than Ortio's gaffe in the 1st period, I thought he played extremely calm and collected.
- I thought the officiating wasn't the best, as a lot of the calls went the 'Yotes way. However, I did feel that most of the Flames penalties were warranted (Brodie's aside), but there was nothing going the other way.

I was at the game last night in PHX... I have a massive new appreciation for 2 players...

1. Lance Bouma - I LOVE this guy ... Full speed and intensity all the time and he hits everything that moves... He reminds me of Ronnie Stern, but with better hands.

2. Mark Giordano - I've mentioned many times I wanted him traded due to his value... I've changed my tune, I don't care about the return, he is an infectious leader out there. I'm actually surprised he doesn't score more goals as he has a hell of a shot, too.
