Whenever moon gets called out for a BS statement he always responds with "It was poor phrasing" or "that's not really what I meant"

He speaks in absolutes and when he gets called out he has no defense.

Explains why he feels the Flames have no defense

I have already seen 5 or 6 games so far this season when the commentators (including HNIC) were going on about how good Hartley is because his practices are the most intense and organized, and he is always, always, ALWAYS teaching out there (him and his assistants).

Go and attend a practice one day. Go and attend another team's practice and compare.

This leads me to believe:

1) You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
2) You have never attended any practices for the Flames, or any practices for other teams.
3) You are just simply making stuff up to justify your position on Hartley.

If Hartley is a poor teacher, then apparently 90% of the coaches currently employed in the NHL aren't even teaching at all. Yes, that is how good he is of a teacher, and how ridiculous your statement is. Hartley has been getting quite the call-outs for how detailed and intense ALL of the practices he runs is, and how much (and how well) he is continually teaching out there.

Tough to take you seriously Moon.

We get it - you don't like Hartley. No coach is perfect, so bring up discussions centered around why you don't like his coaching, maybe his line-combos, maybe his system... but when you say he is an 'awful' teacher when everyone else in the hockey world is praising him for being a great teacher, it makes it really difficult to take your posts with any seriousness.
Stopped reading thread right here, moon put in his place.

Everyone knew the Flames were going to lose a lot this year. It's been, dare I say, refreshing that they've at least been losing the right way. They've worked hard, they've been honest, they've been competitive and they've protected each other (except for the Ferrence thing). The team is now setting the foundation for the future by installing the right attitude. As more talent is injected into the group the coaches need to work to maintain the attitude that they've worked to establish so that we can avoid the perpetual rebuilding of Edmonton, Florida and Brooklyn.

The Flames aren't anywhere close to a playoff spot but even so, Hartley deserves a lot of credit for making what was going to be a really painful season a little less painful.

Hartley has grown in leaps and bounds in my eyes. He was doing remarkably odd things earlier in the November to December period in the lineup with it's excellent work ethic that just couldn't quite win.

I'm talking about things like giving Gio-level minutes to Butler, scratching Sven a whole bunch or Backs on the goon line. They're making a lot more sense now of course but I was definitely one of the whiners.

Butler hasn't been as boneheaded. Sven's learning the 200 foot game. Backlund turned super saiyan after donning the A.

I imagine Sven won't get the call up until he's an NHLer for good. I imagine he's under a lot of subtle scrutiny down at Abbotsford.

Best rebuild year 1 possible
- stud rookie
- new captain is emerging superstar
- new management
- hard working identity established through the entire year
- still on pace for a top 5 pick
- a lot of prospects taking a nice step forward in all leagues
- 1st half of the year Oilers are laughing stock
- 2nd half of the year the Canucks are a laughing stock

Couldn't have predicted a better year (obviously no way this team would have made the playoffs)

4 pages in and got nothing about Burke's appearance. This whole thread was hijacked by an attention seeker who is obviously a trolling troll.

Now, can anyone provide insight on what Burke actually said?

I thought 2-3 posters kindly summarized it for those who didn't listen on the first page. In a nutshell, he likes Hartley and would do the Kessel trade again today.

Giordano is an emerging superstar? I mean, yes he is good. But he's not superstar.

One thing with the one goal games, and the effort put forth most nights, is that this might be one of the most exciting flames teams in recent memory. pure skill? no. pure hustle? totally. I think that only people with unrealistic expectations would expect more from this group right now.

+4 on a team with a -37 goal differential playin against top opposition. If he played 82 games he is on pace for 63pts. Superstar defense numbers for sure

As Brian put it on the 1050... He had to go through a lot of leg work to get rid of a lot of #### contracts on the Leafs.

In Calgary.... He has Cap Space - Full Budget Capabilities - an above average prospect base to work with - a few bad contracts - Monahan - a potential Top 5 pick this year - a great captain - contact room- and a successful year 1 rebuild.

I think he may get his vision executed here fast and we may be Looking at playoffs in the 2015-2016 season.

I think the Flames will be an above average western team, playoff contending in 2 years from now. They look pretty good already and need some of the young blood to fill out a bit, plus, we do need some transaction help from the business side to get bigger.

Once we do that and this team gels a bit more, they'll be good. The key is keeping up the work ethic which Hartley has.

Anyone blaming Hartley as a primary reason for the Flames existing issues is simply not watching close enough or just being purposely "devil's advocate guy" which is so fataing lame.

Anyway the reality is that we watched 4 years of lazy and so to see this group is just extremely refreshing. Their commitment is ridiculous. When have we seen so many guys blocking shots?

Last night Lance Bouma blocked a shot and the score was some stupid thing like 5-0 or whatever. When do you ever see that?

Were the Ducks in last night's game moon? Personally I think they're a Stanley Cup contender, don't you? Should they toss Boudreau? You don't have to be in every game, but you should be in most of them and the Flames are. You can't even debate that really. Look at the stats posted earlier in this thread.

If Giordano didn't miss games due to injury, the Flames are still in a playoff race.

He's also third amongst all defensemen in points per game this season, and only one hundredth of a point per game out of second. You would have a hard time listing five defensemen in the entire league that have undoubtedly played better than goirdano has this season. It's hard to even name one that is more than marginally better this season.
