Idiotic. St.louis is in another league of Callahan. Just awful.

I'd laugh if that 1st rounder somehow turned into McDavid.

Not a great return for MSL but with his age/only one team I guess you hope the picks can turn out.
If I was TB I would have preferred a young guy like Stepan/Kreider/Miller but I am not a fan of Callahan and think he gets way overrated because of so e BS intangibles he supposedly brings.

Tampas going to flip Callahan for sure I think
Getting a 2015 1st and a 2nd this year is a lot for St. Louis already IMO, whatever they can get back for Callahan is just going to be icing on the cake
I really like what Yzerman has dome with his team

Callahan...45 games - 11 goals, 14 assists, upcoming UFA, wants 6+, long-term.

Surprised that people think this is a good trade for Tampa. What is this, HfFboards? (i joke)
But Yzerman just traded away his 2nd best player, captain, and heart of his team for futures in a year where they have a legit shot to win it. So questionable

He's 38 but he's also still a point per game player after winning the Art Ross just last season.
We've seen 1st round picks thrown around for rentals, players expected to only play 20 games and the post-season with their new teams. Does age really matter in that regard? St. Louis still has a year left on his deal so unless he deteriorates greatly and becomes an albatross he already has more value than a rental.
Callahan's not terrible but with the money he's asking no team could really look at him as anything but a rental and that hurts his value. The Rangers upgraded hugely for this season, got a decent risk but extremely high reward player for next year and it cost them only a mid to late first 2 years from now. Assuming this trade happens I think it's a great move by the Rangers.

Yeah, I think he's in for a rude awakening. I don't have any idea how he thinks he's due that type of money anywhere else but in New York.

Agreed, he's not afraid to make big moves. You could probably say he hasn't really made a bad move yet (Bishop trade, Filpulla signing, St. Louis trade).

With this evidence I submit that sureLoss is in fact, BOB MCKENZIE!!!

Actually, I'm pretty sure SureLoss is....

+ a 1st AND a 2nd. I think this is a very good deal for TB, since it looks like St. Louis was taking this whole idiotic Team Canada roster snub nonsense way too personally. From my perspective, the return is excellent for a player who wants to be moved, and who seems to have entitlement issues.

They traded a 2015 1st rounder, not 2014.

Hudler for Drouin, Hedman, 2014 1st, 2015 1st.
I mean hey, if you're going to dream, might as well dream big and ridiculous.
Great return for st-Louis.

People saying the return isn't good are forgetting the Lightning were trading in a market with only 1 team. It was the Rangers or nothing. To get this kind of deal with very little leverage is exceptional.

Completely disagree. They have some excellent young players in literally every position. They're good now. They're only going to get better in the future and the 1st rounder helps with that. Either they sign Callahan and he's part of that future, or they trade him and get something that will be.
I love this trade for Yzerman.

Fantastic trade by Yzerman, a guy who doesn't want to be there for a first, a second and a decent asset. St Louis is great, but he's 38 YEARS OLD!!!

One must remember that this is the return for a player with a list of one team...
Outstanding return, given that
