So wait. Is this some sort of rebellion against the Canucks organization now? All they're trying to do is be like everybody else. Why should that be punished?

At the game. The place is packed. Not sure if they all sold or they gave tickets away though. I find it funny that they honor their most successful team. A losing 94 Stanley Cup finalist team. Also, canucks fans hate Mark Messier

I'd be livid if I paid for tickets and then at the last second they started giving them away for free. Thats ridiculous.

People have problems with Botchford but he makes a lot of good observations here:

They nearly filled it up, but whether or not they distributed all the tickets, BC place was clearly not full to capacity. There were a couple of obvious blocks of empty seats - one empty block of 4 rows x 6 seats per row was pretty obvious in the first period, until fans began moving around to get better views. They did a lot better than it seemed was likely though.

IMO this all goes back to Gillis's poor handling of Luongo. I just don't understand how you can demote your franchise goaltender and drag it out for an entire season that you like the other guy better and you will be traded only to do what he did at the draft and expect that it was ever going to work itself out. Gillis severely underestimated the market for Luongo and since he could never fetch a return that would save his pride he did a selfish thing in trading Schneider just so he could save face and fetch a trade return for the poor situation he put himself into.

The fact that Luongo is suffering mental issues again forcing Torts hands is largely why there wasn't a big market for the guy in the first place at that ridiculous contract. He's soft mentally and not the most technically sound goaltender in the world. Gillis should have accepted that and just moved Luongo for a bag of pucks and moved forward with Schneider but instead the situation is still as bad as it ever was and now that Schneider is gone they really don't have a franchise goaltender in waiting to replace Luongo with. Just a big mess.
