I was disappointed Reggie didn't get more of an ovation. 800+ games for this franchise and was a warrior on and off the ice.
With all of the Olympic pre-game stuff they had to wait until the first tv timeout to show it; I think he would have had a much better reception had they done it at the start of the game.

They would have done it during a commercial break regardless. Also, the fact that it's been three years since Reggie was traded will have also muted the reaction. You'd hardly believe it given how often the Butler-Regehr trade gets brought up here, but most fans have long since moved on.
Still, it was a very nice touch by the organization to recognize Regehr.

I thought Brodie, Smid and Backlund had a pretty good game. Really tough that Russell had that one mistake that caused the first goal.

That's pretty much exactly what I saw as well.
While there was little in the way of opportunities for him to show anything offensively, what he did do last night was show the coaching staff that he can play in this league from a defensive standpoint. He showed them that he isn't a liability out there, which allows them the confidence to give him more ice-time, which in turn will give him the chance to get his confidence and his legs underneath him.
IMO, he earned another game at the very least.
Also, if I was the coach, I would go right back to Ortio tomorrow - give him a second chance. I highly doubt that Hartley will, however.

I thought Brodie and Backlund were great.
The Kings definitely tried to intimidate the Flames and, while their lack of size was obvious, I thought they worked hard to play through it - Backlund in particular. Monahan as well.
I thought they played a good game and could have had a bit more puck luck.
Also, Jonathan Quick.

Thought Granlund looked solid for his first NHL game. Showed good jump, wasn't overmatched physically, was good defensively, and even managed a couple shots on net. Hope he sticks for awhile.
Ortio was solid positioning wise -- a few big rebounds, but he kept the puck out. The only negative was on both goals, the puck seemed to go through him (he either had it or could have had it in his pads, but it got jammed in). Part of that sits on the Calgary defence, but Ortio also has to get stronger in the crease against NHLers. That should come with time.

I believe Bouwmeester was recognized in a similar fashion (during a commercial break -- don't know if he got a video montage) -- however, he was only here for 3.5 seasons. Reggie played 10+ years and was as deserving of recognition as Iggy was IMO.
I agree the fact that he's been gone for a few years played a role as well...

Good game for the most part.
Ortio - Had some issues losing the net and big rebounds but not bad for a debut, can definitely see the potential there. Hope the Flames don't rush him. I'd rather see Berra-Ramo for one more year and Ortio and Gillies in the AHL next season
Granlund - Skating is average but he seems to be able to get to where he needs to go, it isn't bad, more Langkow like. I'd like to see him continue to get some games in.
Backlund was all world again, what a game, buzzing.
Games on TSN are 10x louder then they are on Sportsnet but at least Sportsnet shows all the game. Devil you know in this situation.. going to be a fun 12 years.

And if you don't think losing matters, you haven't been paying attention to Edmonton.

It was more your ASAP attitude that amused me. You can relax, he'll be back in the AHL when the others goalies are ready to play, and then we'll get the non-nervous, rebound-free goaltending we've grown used to this season thus far.
We do need to keep in mind that it's a huge jump from the AHL to the NHL and if we expect a goalie from the minors to be immediately ready we're expecting too much. You have to let them play through the shock of the first NHL games. That fact won't change with any amount of seasoning in the AHL.

Hartley says Butler is doubtful for tomorrow. Smith should slot in and the team may call up someone from the #AHLHeat.

Reto Berra gets the start tomorrow.

McGrattan will not play tomorrow. #Flames

Regehr doesn't cry, he just gets sweaty eyes.

I think the Olympic stuff did impact it, but also the pure factor of time did. Been a while since he was on the team. I know I didn't realize they were doing it until half way through, then I sat there for a while and tried to wrap my head around how this could possibly the first time back since we moved him.

There was a mostly standing ovation in the second level at least in section 224. I know because I was standing along with about 70%. He was a great player for Calgary for a longer time.
I was disappointed that almost no one in the lower bowl could bother to stand.
