to the mens shoes - whats with the military style soles on all of them. Maybe if someone wants a more expensive shoe AND one where you should never have to resole them!

LOL these are what I'm wearing around the office today (well the hightop version). Also advertising, also casual office.

I buy Allen Edmonds when they go on sale, I buy online and usually go to holts or Harry Rosen to check sizes.

Have 3 pairs and best shoes I've ever owned. Avg about 200/on sale.
Retail is usually 3-500

The internet.

All my shoes are shell cordovan. Buying that stuff in Canada is difficult. You can get Allen Edmonds shell at O'Connors and Brooks Brothers used to do it but has decided not to anymore. So I have to order from the USA. Basically all Alden made.

Just tried on some Allen Edmonds at lunch. Those are probably the nicest shoes I've tried on. At $350, I need to find a sale though.

^If you tried a pair on, you probably know what size you need and what model. You can often get new pairs on Ebay for much cheaper than retail. Here are the Park / Fifth Avenues.

Good point. I think this is called "showrooming"

All this talk about Allen Edmonds... is there anywhere aside from Holt or HR that have them? Ideally in the NW?

That eBay page makes them look VERY affordable, I just need to figure out my size.

I like Allen Edmonds, they aren't cheap but they are every penny, they also make nice dress boots...

for casual boots I wear Red Wings

So, as it happens I am in town tomorrow and have some free time in the morning downtown and a need for a new pair of dress shoes.
Is O'Connors the go to place? I am not looking to break the bank but will pay $200 if it is something that will look good and last.

If you have a car, go to O'connors on 15th ave as a previous poster suggested. That location has far better service and selection than the d/t location - especially for first timers.

Harry Rosen also carries Allen Edmonds however their service is hit or miss with their shoe department.

You won't find any AE's at O'Connors for less than $200.

O'Connors has a sale once or twice a year. If you can get on their email list, they will email you when the sale is. It's usually 30-50% off I think.

I've bought mine all from there website.

I wait for there sales, 2 for 300/400, factory seconds, 15-50% off. Each happens once a year, you buy in US dollars, but no duty as they are made in the US.
