- Silver Dragon - in Calgary, this is still the best Dim Sum.

absolutely.
not to bash calgary but its restaurantal weakness, if it has one, is that there are very few good chinese food places there.
a chinese guy i worked with took us there and man, did it rock.
service, the spinny table, the food...
who knew how good chicken's feet are when prepared properly?
sure tasted a lot better than the gray nuggets at McDonalds!

Not sure if it's still there (I left Calgary in '97), but the best Chinese food in town by a mile when I lived there was Golden Inn right up by Centre Street and I think 3rd or 2nd Avenue. Right on the corner of that intersection. Small, old place but the best authentic chinese food in the city back in the day!
Any of you guys know if it's still there?

Catching a road game--Schanks North, Crowfoot Mall next to Cineplex. Biggest screen in town, waitresses are always pleasant, boneless wings...hmmm. I simply won't go anywhere else for a road game unless I'm actually on the road.
|
Skanks North licks donkey balls. You must be living in opposite world - they have by far the bitchiest waitresses, slow service, half-ok food but that's it...ugh, Skanks sucks. [/b][/quote]
Yea, I was thinking the same thing. Went there for some World Cup games and it sucked. In addition, way to big and cavernous. Brewster's down the road is much better.
In other news, I will recommend Ha Long Bay on 7th Avenue downtown for Vietnamese.

Best Korean food was a joint called Ginseng House on 10th and First. Shut down about a decade ago.
Sizzling Wok was primo in its day.
Golden Inn: Many a fond memory of late night repasts there with friends. Haven't been there in years though.

Do you know if it's still around though Reg? It'd be a shame if it weren't.

Still should be. No idea if it's changed hands though.
Best part was that they were open until about 3:00 a.m. Many a run back in my University days 20 years ago.
There was another late nite joint on 17th and 5th open until about 5:00 a.m., but it wasn't as good.

I'm going to have to vouch for Vern's Pizza. Best. Damn. Pizza. Period.
Try the "Flame Thrower" or the "Guy-Bo Special."

I just came back from Wancouver. I highly recommend the Sandbar on Grandville Island.
I'm going to say no to the Sultan's tent - I though it was overpriced on my chicken (had the fish one another time) tangine to be blah at best. Awesome ambience, but the food itself is blah. Icing and mincemeat pie didn't go over too well either.
Chalk another one down for Ho Won though. HANDS DOWN it has the best salt and pepper squid in the city. Their flavoring is the absolute best. $10 for a huge plate. Warning - eat it there, take out will cause it to be soggy. It's a crappy Chinatown dive so don't bring anyone too fussy.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. Looking to take dad out for his birthday tomorrow. What's a good steak restaurant that isn't too generic (ie: keg) but still affordable?

I am just guessing that Golden Inn is now Spicy Hut, which, is really good. It is on Edmonton trail and 2nd Ave. There is nothing on Center street until 7th Ave becaues of the bridge and then a park, but you might mean in the South. Anyway Spicy Hut is my favorite Chinese.

The Reef n Beef has been open since the mid 80's so i would have to say 80's decor The food is pretty good, but use to be better.
