I mean why don't they just get over it already, a little systemic racism and bigotry is nothing compared to the segregation and horrific abuse they faced last century.
I mean jeez.

Wasn't really directed at you, just the general tone of the thread (you know, aside from the edgy jokes).

I believe that is the way to move forward, and eventually resolve the injustice of the past. I think this type of garment keeps the focus on the past not on the resolution. I, IMO, continues to foster the resentment of aboriginals.
Would my belief/feelings be different if I was aboriginal, I can't say.

Yeah, again though, you can't really move forward from something that's still occurring. If we didn't have agents of the state still practicing racist and abusive behaviour towards aboriginals, you might be able to make the case towards reconcilliation, but your asking a group of people to trust a government that has kicked them in the balls every other time they've been asked to trust them. Why would they think that this time would be any different?

I can't answer that question, but I know you know that.
It appears to be a Mexician stand off with neither side blinking.
There have been instances of the oppressed people moving forward while the oppression is still happening, South Africa in 1995.

Historically, most invaders solved this problem with either genocide, or killing all the men and assimilating the women.

That's true, but there was a lot of unsavoury things that had to be done by the oppressed in South Africa to get to that point, which I know is something you've said you're generally not a fan of.

It's something I'm torn on because it involves a whole bunch of moral absolutism and generally winds up being radicalized. That being said, I'm not the victim of violence that has been legitimized by the state.

I also have never been a victim of legitimized violence by the state.
I have had a front seat view of a society turning on itself and state sanctioned violence against identifiable sections of society, and I want no part of it, so I will always hope/look for another way. (might be getting soft in my old age)

I got land. I was able to acquire my land with help from my bank, my lawyer, my realtor, my employer, my insurance company and most importantly my wife. To my knowledge not a single indian was ever involved.

Free education and housing. Two major advantages that my family never had. Oh and 84,000,000 to rebuild after last years flooding. I think most of you need to do a little more research and see how much our government shells out annually to all reserves. For the most part racism is the easy card to play when you ignore the truth

Are you sure it's us that's ignoring the truth? I'm guessing your family didn't have any of the disadvantages of being taken from their homes and abused by agents of the state for decades, or am I off here?
As for free housing, why don't you do a little more "truth-searching" and look into where reserves are placed and the process that goes into the building of reserve housing.

I wanted to wait a bit and let people weigh in so I didn't bias the thread with my opinion in the initial post.. but I think the sweater is out of line. There is no reason for her to wear that other than to provoke people. If you want to raise awareness, do it in a tasteful and respectful manner. If my kid was in her class I wouldn't raise a stink about it, I wouldn't even complain. But I definitely wouldn't agree with it.
What would happen if I sent my kid to school with a t-shirt directed towards natives that said "Got Money? Thank a white man!"
edit: ok first he would be called sexist because it should be a White Person or Man/Woman, but after that, a racist!

Looks like the "Thank an Indian" font is dripping....maple syrup
Yeah...instead of being mad, I'd think looking at the way the treaties have been managed...

Grab a map. Look at the siksika nation. Pretty much pristine ranch and farm land that is completely squandered. Look at the Blood Reserve same thing. But you will find examples to counter me I'm sure, or call me racist
