Nothing
Too much money/term left and he can't play top 4 minutes for a play-off team.
Maybe we get a pick if we take back someone else's bad deal.

Only untouchable for me is Monahan. There are some players like Sven, Brodie and Gio that would need to be over the top return. After that i don't care, they can all go.
There are certainly players that i would love gone, but no chance they are going anywhere because of contract. D jones and SOB are in that group.
For this trade deadline i would like to see Stempniak, Cammi, Stajan and Butler gone. After that, dpending on what the returns are and free agency in the summer, i will decide on the rest.

I think the biggest problem with Wideman is just how high up he is on our depth chart. It's more a reflection of the state of our rebuild than his play. I like him as a #4 guy with PP time. Not so much as the #1 guy that he was forced into playing before he was injured.
I wouldn't trade him for no other reason than guys like him are hard to find and we can afford to overpay him a bit.

I don't understand why people hate SOB so much. I think he can actually skate, Not slow at all.. When hes out and the team is in the O-zone, he makes plays. He hits harder than any other Dman we have and can actually move guys from the front of our net. I like him...
Paul Byron could easily turn out to be another Martin St.Louis type player, and don't give me the... No way he could do that and im out to lunch. No one thought St.Louis would turn into the player he is now, when he was with the Flames.
Stemp's is snake bitten right now and if he was still putting up points, no one would look at his minus.. I think he could help a playoff team and we could get a 3rd back for him.
But like someone said earlier... Older than Backlund, move. Younger, keep. I agree to an extent. We have some solid guys on this roster and some seriously untapped talent.
I don't think we should be dumping ANY yout's this season. Bring them all to camp with Johnny G, Porier, and Klimchuck in the off season and watch the likes of Colborne, Backlund, Knight, Gaudreau, Ferland, Byron, Baertschi, Granlund, Arnold, Agostino, Hanowski, and our D-prospects.. which there is depth there too... and watch them all battle it out.
Then start making the tough decisions. But for the time being, add assets and reduce heavy contracts.. It doesn't matter what we add at this moment, the kids need to play and get experience. Let them grow together.

Regarding SOB, watch last nights 2nd goal unfold as exhibit A, from the point where we lost control of the puck in the offensive zone (SOB) to the point where we regained it and then gave it right back (SOB) to the Canucks.

Because he's not good at hockey. He makes stupid decisions and takes bad penalties.

My expectations aren't for him to steal games like Kipper. I do however expect him to not let in so many bad goals because of poor positioning and over-committing on cross ice passes giving the other team an empty net to shoot at.

I think most people who don't like SOB do so because his O-zone plays usually create more chances for the other team than the Flames. He is a disaster in his own zone losing his man more often than not and makes some really horrible decisions with the puck.

No he could not easily turn into another Martin St. Louis. St. louis was a PPG guy in his time in the AHL Byron hasn't come close. He may take an insane leap and become a Hart Trophy winner but it is very, very unlikely and not close to easily happening.

Everyone else should be available and should be discussed in potential moves.
Backlund is a very tough call, i'd be happy to see him stick around, as i think he could be better with a good team around him. I just don't see that happening for at least 2 years, so not sure how to manage that.

I'll go to say he'll be more valuable to the culture of a rebuilding club that whatever we'd get back for him (2nd rounder).

Step back and compare Ferando Pisiani (after his colitis) to Stempniak.
After the Oilers finally gave up on him Pisani signed a one year deal with the Hawks for $500K.
He went from a 4 year deal at 2.5M with the Oilers to a league minimum with the Hawks as a UFA.
That is the point that Stempniak is in his career.
2 goals 4 points in his last 22 games and -16 over those 22 games.
It might be the worst stretch of 22 games by a forward playing 16-20 minutes a game in the history of the NHL.

I like Stempniak's attitude and effort for the most part but he is ultimately a replaceable player. Hold onto him for a little longer and when he gets on a goal scoring hot streak as he tends to do, trade him for maximum value as a rental. It's a case of asset management.

I sure hope being near the cap floor doesn't stop Burke from selling HARD at the deadline.
If that's the case, then pick up somebody high priced and nearly useless, like Heatley for "future considerations" or a 2016 7th round pick or something, then sell, sell, SELL!
