So, Vancouver has a problem:

Confusion surrounds Whitecaps pick Andre Lewis signing with NASL team

Quote:
The Vancouver Whitecaps say Andre Lewis is now part of their team, contradicting a story that said the Jamaican midfielder is joining the New York Cosmos of the NASL.

The Whitecaps released a short statement with the announcement after a story appeared on Goal.com that said Lewis had signed with the Cosmos of the second-tier league. A Cosmos spokesman confirmed that story with The Canadian Press.

I don't think it will be a problem in the end. The Caps say he signed with the MLS, and the player said he looks forward to being a Whitecap.

Just stumbled across this thread, so thanks for putting together guys.

Excited to see DeRo with TFC again. He was so dominate with DC United for the past few years, shame he had such a lack luster 2013 campaign. I can see him fitting in really well with DC United and acting as a calming influence in the mid-field there.

I have a feeling it's going to be another rough couple seasons for DC United. Well until the new stadium is built.

The Commissioner says that the league loses $100m a year. Oh, by the way, the contract with the Players Union is up at the end of the year.

If you're interested in the business side of mls, this is a great read on the bradley/defoe transfers... http://read.thestar.com/?origref=htt...-leiweke-kelly

TFC trade Eckersley to NY Redbulls for a 4th round pick in 2017.

Ecks brought a lot of energy to the team and was a fan favourite. But with a $310k salary, it's tough to keep him in the new structure of the team.

A few pre-season games are going to be streamed online this year (some have already passed):

I'm not sure what the quality will be like, but better than no streams at all.

You can check out the DC United TFC match on Youtube... hilariously foggy. You could barely see anything.

Well, I was hoping to get off the wait list and actually get season tickets for 2014, but the renewal rate is like 97%. Maybe next year...

I was able to get tickets to all of the available Timbers home matches this morning (first half of the season). Single tix for myself for the night games, and tix for the whole family for the day games.

Is anyone coming down for the preseason tournament? I'll be at the Timbers/Whitecaps match on March 1.

Any info on all-star game tickets yet? Also, it seems they only have tickets through the June 11th game. August go on sale later? A few of us are planning to take a trip for the all-star game (tickets or no tickets, as they're Bayern fans) and the Chivas game on the 9th after it.

I haven't heard anything on all-star game tickets, yet. Assuming they'll open the tickets to season ticket holders and wait list members first, I'll post the dates here as soon as I hear.

I know that I'll be buying as many as I possibly can, and making sure whoever I know that wants to go will be able to.

As for the regular season tickets, they did only put the first half of the season up for sale. I'm sure server overload issues from last year played a role in that decision, as well as possible rescheduling of marquee games later in the season.

Portland will have great ambiance and be a wonderful setting for the match.

My concern is a club like Bayern easily draws over 60K. Those tickets will be hard to come by and cost dearly on secondary.

The rumor is Bayern is having 3 friendlies including New York and Portland. The third is unknown but the Whitecaps are in negotiations which is what I'm banking on.

Do you know if they are playing on the plastic or putting in a grass toupee for the match at "Providence Park"?

I think they are going to be playing it on the plastic, but I'm not positive. I know they just installed new turf a few weeks ago.

Regarding ticketing, you are correct. The stadium only holds a tad over 20k, and you'd assume there would be a chunk of those seats being used by corporate entities (Adidas HQ, etc.). I know the Timbers Army do their best to stop scalping, there's not much you can do when StubHub is in cahoots with the club.

MLS purchases Chivas USA

Thank goodness.

Hopefully the future owners can make a serious commitment to building a decent stadium/club, and not firing anyone who isn't Mexican.

I wonder if Arsenal/Colorado Rapids/St. Louis Rams/Denver Nuggets, etc. owner Stan Kroenke has any interest in them occupying his newly purchased real estate in LA... Rumor link

^^
This is exhibit A for NYCFC to market and create its own brand. You'll turn off all the Eurosnobs who aren't City fans. Kroenke owns Arsenal and the Rapids and you wouldn't know it so hopefully clubs follow that model going forward.

As for Chivas, MLS is strong enough now to embrace the NASL past as it has done for the Earthquakes and the Cascadia clubs. Call them the LA Aztecs or maybe Aztecas de Los Angeles.

Matias Laba will be loaned to Vancouver for the 2014 season. An interesting spot for him to wind up, with Reo-Coker and Koffee back there as well.

Well, the Whitecaps still have a gaping hole at the #10 spot, so one of those three could possibly end up playing there. Rumours have been that they are still searching for a player to fill that spot though, so who knows.

The other interesting thing is that Carl Robinson seems to believe Russell Teibert is best suited as a deeper midfielder, and he's been seeing time there in preseason. It will be interesting to see who will win the starting roles.
