RAV4s weren't released until 1995 in North America. I thought it was 1997, but Wiki says '95.

What is all this talk about door to door milk delivery? I'm pretty sure nobody was delivering milk from their house to another person's house.
Come on people, the correct phrase is "Delivery to the door."
This was like reading posts where people say they are "unthawing" frozen items. Gives me a brain tick thinking about it.

My Milk delivery man used to dress up as Batman at Halloween. He had the Micheal Keaton style costume too, it was sweet.
He would be delivering milk across the street while we were out for recess and throw candy over the fence.

And in 2013 the school would be locked down and the SWAT team called.

I'm not either! I thought you were presenting a hypothetical the first time I read it. Clearly, not the case.

Some figures released by the US Postal Service shows that it costs something like $380 per house per year to deliver door to door. Something like $185 per year per house to deliver on the curbline (each house has its own box that is delivered to from a vehicle) and $125 per house per year to deliver to cluster boxes.
You will see the USPS do the exact same thing if Congress will allow it (which they won't.)

Come on dude, that's silly, door to door is just as descriptive. The delivery guy goes to each door on the block, hence he is going door to door for his deliveries.
Even if we took your silly interpretation of what it means, why would "door to door" necessarily mean from one house to another? I'm pretty sure dairys have doors don't they. It isn't "House door, to house door".

Not sure what the criteria are then, maybe I had the year wrong. My house was built in '82 and I definitely get the mail delivered directly to my house in Hawkwood. Maybe it varies by neighbourhood?

Those are legally exempt from "no flyers". Conventional wisdom is that you'll get more voters from delivering to people with "no flyers" (which in some communities is almost everyone) than you'll lose from the ones who don't like it.

LOL @ Beep.
When I was diagnosed with ADHD, we stopped getting BEEP! delivered. I was not a happy kid. Then I ended up being the stupid sugar free apple juice, Natural Peanut Butter and Hot Carob instead of Hot Chocolate Kid. Have you ever seen organic peanut butter? It looks like someone chewed up peanuts and spit them on the bread.
I was always fascinated with the milk mans change maker thing on his belt.
After re-reading this post, I think I should go back to Carob and organic peanut butter again.

I think this will have a bigger impact on our aging population than people in this thread think. People in their 60s - ie the boomers and post boomers - are used to getting their mail delivered. As mobility decreases with age, having to go to a community box will become an issue that Canada Post will have to resolve. You think there are complaints about snow covered sidewalks now? Just wait until you have hundreds of thousands of boomers pushing walkers and canes to go out and get their bills.

My parents are both over 75 and have lived in a retirement community for almost 20 years and have had a community mail box that entire time.

I am 99% certain that my postie only delivers my mail when I have more than one piece. You can tell me all you want that it's not allowed, but I pretty sure he does it anyway.

There are plenty of old and/or disabled people that live in superbox neighbourhoods. This will change nothing, and CP won't have to resolve anything.
I do think that this will make CP temporarily more efficient, but ultimately, it will further erode peoples' reliance on them, and therefore hurt their business. The old and disabled will sign up for e-post for the stuff they really want an actual bill for, and they'll also learn how to check things like bank statements online, and cancel delivery of paper statements.
At least Canada Post was proactive in the digital age, creating e-post. They could have completely forgotten to acknowledge the internet, like Blockbuster Video did, and eventually go bankrupt.
I am pretty proud of CP, however. It's nice to see a unionized company making a change like this, instead of clinging to jobs that are outdated and inefficient. I also like e-post, and think that CP needs to focus on it, and create a place where all your bills and statements go to, to maintain their relevancy, and be profitable. Right now, there are still a few companies missing from their list.
One thing that I really like about e-post is that I get my paystubs directly to my e-post account. I think I need to go and double check whether I can get my Telus bill to e-post, and a certain someone's GD Shaw bill that I unfortunately pay. It shouldn't be long before I really don't use my physical mailbox at all. I'd like it if Delivery Notices went to e-post as well. I keep checking my mailbox to see if a parcel I'm waiting for is at the post office. Finally got the Delivery Notice today, so now I don't need to check my mailbox for a few days. Would have been awesome if I just got the auto email that e-post sends when I get a bill or a paystub.
tl;dr, don't read. Just babbling.
