It was clear for a few seasons that Iggy was tired of being "The Man" here. He has a diminished role now for the Bruins, along with some relative anonymity, and that'll translate into him being a more effective player.

never said they weren't happy with him as a team...Media in certain markets (like this one) would be all over a guy making 5 plus million and only having 6 goals. Obviously winning fixes everything so if they keep winning nobody will notice

I've watched every boston game this year and iginla has been a beast for them. It's no coincidence that both Krejci and Lucic are on pace for career seasons... Iggy is a huge upgrade on Horton.
Anyone that's actually watched him this year and not just looked at the stats sheet knows he's constantly winning battles along the boards and has even gained a stride from the past few years. Believe it or not, he's the best forechecker on that line. It's become one of the most dominant lines in the NHL and iggy is a big reason for it. Lucic just tends to shoot sometimes when he should pass and that tends to skew points away from iginla.

Can't wait to go tonight and giving in the send off we didn't get a chance to give him.
Will be great to see that big smile once again.

I have watched them...never said he had been terrible or anything but to say he has gained a stride is a bit of a stretch....lets not forget he is playing in the east

James Duthie @tsnjamesduthie 30m
NHL on TSN: LA/MTL 7ET, BOS/CGY 7:30MT (Early heads up: if first game goes long, coverage of Iginla's return will begin on TSN2 at 7:30MT)
Expand
I hate that they push the second game to TSN2. A lot of folks don't get that channel.

Better than CBC showing the Ottawa Toronto shootout instead of the first 5 minutes of Flames Oilers
Smid scores 8, Flames win 2-1 in a shootout

CBC did show the first 5 minutes. They split-screened it which I'm perfectly fine with.

did you really expect CBC to cut the leafs to show the first five minutes of the two worst teams in the west that were out of the race by the start of november

I disagree, it looks like he's improved his speed and physicallity from the last few seasons, although his shot accuracy and finish appear to have suffered

I want the Flames to become a team like Boston. Big, mean, physical, fast, talented, they got it all. I really enjoy they're style of play. They're in my top 5 teams for sure. I hope the Flames can get a bit of payback for the 9-0 waxing they took last time though. Oh, and I guess seeing Iggy will be cool.

His role hasn't dimished. He's second for ATOI behind Krecji for forwards. He's only 4th in points, but that's likely more to do with the fact the Bruins have more point producers. I find it interesting he's tied for 1st in +/-. Looking at stats, I'd say he has a very prominent role on a much deeper team.
I hope he shows well tonight.

Lots of Iggy love around the net today. Some spectacular thoughts and respect for a man well deserving. Great role model in a time when a lot of athletes demand respect but never earn it.

I chose my words poorly - I meant diminished in the "no longer expected to carry the team" sense. I haven't seen much non-Flames hockey this year, but I think your description in bold sounds right.
