As long as a significant percentage of Albertans spend a significant percentage of their days doing business with people outside of Alberta, we should probably remain in sync with the other 98% of North America.

Not to mention flight schedules, phone calls, television schedules... all thrown off.

That's what concerns me; you aren't the first person who has said that. Most people I know who are opposed to DST also happen to be the ones who enjoy that extra hour it brings.

Who cares what it's called or not called? The point is to have the extra hour of sunlight after work. The name is irrelevant discussion.

My face is a bum!

can we just move to the Central timezone and not use DST? That works for me too.

It's relevant because if a bunch of Albertan's start to say get rid of DST, they are asking for the wrong thing. And this government is quite prone to not picking up on that.

Not sure if serious..........
If you are- here's why you should care what it is called. You specifically asked to get rid of the extra hour of daylight after work. You used the exact opposite term from what you meant.
My point was that if you want something done (or left alone), it is important to get the terminology correct.

Fully agreed on this point. As someone who grew up in Saskatoon, not being on DST when the rest of North America was turned out to be a pain in the ass for all the above listed items. Now that I've been in Alberta for 13 years I couldn't even imagine going back to having to adjust to the rest of the country's schedule.

Maybe it's time to teach your kids how to adjust their clocks? I cant imagine growing up and having Daddy adjust my clocks for me every time

Yeah, as long as the rest of North America continues to switch, people would still have to adjust their schedules with the rest of the continent to fit a lot of their daily activities.
There certainly may be merit to discussing eliminating DST, or even going to two time zones across North America, like in the link TurnedTheCorner posted, but it has to be a continent-wide change. It doesn't make any sense for this to be something that the provincial government should even be discussing. There's no way the Alberta business community would ever support making this change independent of the rest of the Canada and the USA.

Do you honestly think that the problem for parents is that having kids = more clocks to change? Really?

So then keep DST permanently? Fine. Don't really care how it's labelled. Still want the hour of sunlight in the afternoon. Point remains the same.

As it is when I worked on construction, at this time of the year, I'd be stumbling around in the dark for 1/2 an hour, now you want people to work in the dark for an hour and a half on dangerous jobs, just for some imagined convenience.
