How much worse can a first round pick get than a 2012 29th overall pick?

2013 was expected to be a better draft and its pretty easy to admit your team probably wont make it to the finals in 2014 so why not forfit it in 2012?

They must have really liked Stefan Matteau...!?
I'm not sure how much validity there is to this, but I once read a rumour that New Jersey kept their 2012 1st because they were targeting Jankowski and thought he would fall to them at 29th due to his age and lack of exposure because of the obscure league he played in. Maybe that was just wishful thinking on the part of a Calgary fan, but I can see the logic behind it if the Devils really felt Janko would be one of the better players to emerge from the 2012 draft.

I thought NJ had up 2 or 3 picks before there's to decide if they wanted to forfit it or not....?

With the unrivalled ineptitude of Edmonton, the scorched earth rebuilds in Buffalo and New Jersey, and the proven ability and willingness of Florida and Carolina to tank on purpose, finishing bottom three will be a real challenge. I think Calgary finishes bottom 4-7 for each of the next two years.

The flames have kept all but 1 game close in the 3rd period. We have a chance to win every night which is all you can ask for with a young group as this missing key players since game 1.
I think you'll find most teams in the bottom third of the standings (except Edmonton, of course) are in most games. It's not as though bad teams get blown out every night in today's NHL. The Flames have a goals for vs goals against differential of -11. Among teams below us in the standings, the Jets have a -8 differential, and the Blue Jackets are -6.

We need to purge ourselves of the mediocrity that plagues us.. Too many middle rotation players.
