I didn't get my order in until about 7:00 on launch day, so I was expecting it to take a while longer. My play account said it would take 3-4 weeks when I ordered, and said 2-3 weeks until today. Looks like they're ahead of schedule which is refreshing.

post edit: Bought mine on Friday about mid-day.. It said it was going to be shipped in about 3-4 weeks and is already on its way apparently.

They're a little expensive but that red looks really get on the Nexus 5 from the photo.
The quick covers would be a neat option too. Seen them lots on S4's and liked them.
I was thinking about those cases as well but I found Spigen makes a very nice case as well at seem to rival the OEM ones at a slightly lower price point while still looking very OEM minus the whole Nexus logo.
DBrand is also making skins for the phone, who was it that got the customized flames carbon fiber skin on their Nexus 4? That would look nice or just the titanium feel for the phone. They only just got the back cover out so far though. http://dbrand.com/submodels/nexus-5/
I still haven't found much use at all for Google Now, at least nothing that makes it worth the toll it seemed to take on my Nexus 4's battery, which is a shame because I can really see the potential.
There's the odd bit of info that I found valuable but most of what it was giving me was useless or unwanted information. For instance, a few months ago I was going to be in the US so I ordered some stuff online for a friend because shipping to Canada was ridiculous. I guess the place I ordered from was a company that specializes in allergen friendly foods so now because the order went through my Gmail account, Google Now thinks I want to be constantly reminded of where the nearest gluten free restaurants are.
I guess if you're fully committed to it (i.e. doing everything through Gmail, using Google's calendar apps, using Chrome for browsing, etc.) the utility is pretty apparent, but for me 90% of the info it was giving me was pointless and unneeded (I really don't need directions for a 5 minute drive home when there's no traffic). Because of that I've found it less of a hassle to just get the info I want on demand rather than dismiss the useless stuff I don't need. I'll probably give it another shot once it I get 4.4 though.
How is Google Now on non Nexus devices? Easy to get to and use etc? Still pops up in the notification menu the same?
When it first debuted on 4.1 I never used it, it drained the battery on my Nexus S and I thought it was Siri like. Then when I got my Nexus 4 I left it on and found the more you use it the better it gets. Even for weather now I just flick up on my phone to use Google Now instead of a weather App. I'm a casual CFL fan and I guess it knows that from searches because I get Stamps updates and no longer go searching for them. Using it to track packages and flight information was a shock at first but really cool.
The best thing was using it after work one day to track the Calgary transit. I had meet someone for dinner after work and wasn't sure the best route home, not wanting to take a cab, I went into GoogleNow and it gave me three different options for transit.
It's so much more then Siri and only getting better.
My dad is looking to enter the smart phone world, and I have been recommending the Nexus to him for a while. The big advantages being cost (compared to an iPhone, for example), and being unlocked.
So the service providers will typically provide you with a discount for having your own non-subsidized and unlocked phone, correct? How much is this typically? And you can just go on a month-to-month plan and jump ship at anytime, right?
Anyone know of any deals for a plan for a 64-year-old man who probably won't use it as much as he thinks he will?
Um so can someone explain to me why anyone would buy an iPhone under these circumstances? The 32gb Nexus 5 is less than 50% of the price of the 32gb 5s. I can see paying a premium for Apple if it's a hundred bucks or maybe even $200 but it's $420.

Branding, advertising, personal preference or ignorance. Take your pick depending on the person.

HTC One here, never used a Nexus device but how you describe Google Now functioning is exactly how I experience it. Notifications pop up on the menu, Flames/NHL scores, directions to that place I Googled a few minutes ago, etc.
